Over 50? Now is the best time to become your own boss!

A Devon-based start-up consultancy is appealing to the over 50s across the country to reconsider their plan for retirement and start a business.

The ‘Silver-Start-Up Retreat’ is a seven-day course designed by experts to help those in early retirement to learn the essential skills involved in creating a successful start-up company.

Neil Finnie, Founder of Corskcrew says: “Contrary to popular belief, age is on your side if you are over 50 and considering going out alone; according to research, you have a greater chance of successfully starting a business at this age, than if you are under 35.

“Many retired people relish the opportunity to take on new challenge. With the age at which a pension can be drawn gradually rising, for many it is important to find an income source in the intervening years. What’s more, there are other benefits which come hand in hand with working later in life, such as helping to ward off the mental and physical health problems associated with old age.

“The retreat is aimed at anyone who has come to retirement early, either through choice or redundancy. It is also a good option for anyone in this age group who is unhappy in their 9 to 5 job and looking for an exit strategy!”

The Silver Start-Up Retreat is set in the beautiful Devonshire countryside. Participants will be guided through the steps involved in starting up a successful retirement business from coming up with the initial concept to marketing the end product or service. With activities organised each day, there will also be a good chance to relax and unwind.

The retreat will be running at regular intervals throughout 2015 at Seale Hayne – a luxury residence based in South Devon just a few miles from the Dartmoor National Park. The course is open to individuals or couples with an interest in becoming their own boss.
