The Forgotten Society

Below is another poignant poem written by Tracey Curtis:

THE FORGOTTEN SOCIETY..

We get so wrapped up in having nice things
Like holidays, sofas, and diamond rings,
With computers, TVs, mobiles and more
That we buy, with our money, down at the store.

Sitting in doors, just warming our feet,
Filling our freezers, with food we don’t eat.
With clothes we don’t wear, and the biggest car
We take it for granted, how lucky we are.

But some ain’t so lucky, for reasons unknown,
They live in the streets, and they call it their home.
They’re cold and hungry, their clothes are so wet,
They are the society, that people forget.

Who are the people, that live in the street?
Who sit in rags, with odd shoes on their feet,
They curl up in doorways, out of the storm,
Trying so hard to keep themselves warm.

People walk by, just shaking their head,
Pointing them out, in their newspaper bed.
With a little tin can, and an old woollen hat
Lying beside them, on a dirty old mat.

They sit all alone, with their head hung low,
With no food to eat, and nowhere to go.
With holes in their gloves, and trousers all worn
Their coats are damp, tattered and torn.

People ignore them, as if they’re not there.
The unwanted society, it’s just so unfair.
Who are these people, so fragile and shy?
That share the same roof, under the sky.

There’s young and old, and some we don’t see,
Just hiding away in their poverty.
They’re just like us, but without the flair,
With the money we waste, it’s just so unfair.

So next time you’re out, buying some shoes,
Or buying posh glasses, to fill up with booze.
Hand them some pennies, or something to eat,
Or maybe some socks to put on there feet.

A blanket, or scarf, or a coat from the wife,
You never know, it could save their life.
See what you have, that you can spare,
Lets show these people, we really do care.
