Loneliness

Here is another poignant poem by Mike Rose about loneliness …

As we sit in our houses all alone
We wish we were not so much on our own
Family and friends they rarely phone or call
So no one would know if we should fall

No one to talk to but our self
Or maybe that photo on the shelf
Those who mobile they are not
Life is not such a happy lot

To sit at a window and just stare
Thinking of a life that is so bare
Watching as the world goes by
Hoping someone would call and just say Hi

A visitor an hour or so to stay
Would help to keep some of that loneliness at bay
This could help us in our plight
These lonely days for us to fight

Friends and family may live away
But maybe could find some time to come and stay
We try not to ask for much
Please with us just stay in touch

If we are old or in our prime
With us please try and spend some time
Loneliness it can be such a curse
A cause for us to write such verse
