When you walk in the door

This beautiful, touching poem was written by Martin Silvester for his wife and for all people in the world who have been, are in, or will be .. at some time or other .. in love!

When you walk in the door

I’ll always remember, the day in my life when love came,
The surge of emotion, in finding that you felt the same.
I remember the joy that I felt in my heart,
The first time I kissed you and felt cupids dart.

The hope that I had, when I held out my hand,
And I asked you to marry, and wear my gold band.
The sun shone so brightly, no cloud in my sky,
Just a warmth in my breast, happy tears in my eye.

I remember the feeling with you in my arms,
Our hopes for the future, held in our palms.
Of being together, of both being there,
The warm feel of love, when you stroked my hair.

We didn’t know, where loves journey would lead,
Would our hearts be happy, or would our hearts bleed.
Would the feeling of being, on top of the world,
Survive, or in time, become withered and curled.

Though time has passed, the feelings still strong,
It’s always felt right and never felt wrong.
I still feel the tenderness, when you caress my cheek,
And the love that we feel, doesn’t play hide and seek.

It’s there in our eyes and all things that we do,
And if life serves a knock, then our love pulls us through.
I still look at your face, when you’re fast asleep,
Feel my love for you, that I’ll always keep.

To snuggle down, with you in my arms,
To forget getting up and ringing alarms.
To have breakfast in bed, served up on a tray,
To share all the hours, that pass in the day,

If a lion attacked you, I’d stand in its way,
If you fell from a cliff, I’d grab hold, come what may.
You’re my life, you’re my reason, for being alive,
And I’ll stand by your side, if dark clouds arrive.

So don’t worry angel, please have no fear,
If other hearts beckon, I’ll still want to be here.
The box of our memories, still has room for more,
And I still feel my heart leap, when you walk in the door.

Not a lot to tell...just an ordinary man...always loved writing but never had the time until now...hope I've got a few years left to write about the million things I would like to get down on paper be it in poetry form or just plain old story telling. Just in case anyone would like me to come along to their group and read a few of my poems live..I would be happy to do so within the confines of Kent or Sussex...I would just need to cover my time and petrol costs...plus a cup of tea and a biscuit. Just email [email protected] To answer some of your questions= ex-army..ex -jackeroo...ex-builder..ex-quite a few other things..still rocking...married...2 + 3 children...7 grandchildren...retired...love custard creams. I have now published my first collection of poems which are now available on Amazon under the title of..LAST APPLE ON THE TREE. The book consists of twenty seven poems covering a wide range of topics and emotions. My second book has just been published and is called A BREEZE IN THE WILLOWS, also available on Amazon. I hope that everyone will get as much enjoyment reading them, as I did writing them.
