Feel good playlist

Don’t wait around for a good mood to arrive — make it happen! These feel-good tunes are the perfect way to welcome the weekend or start the day off with a smile.

What classifies a tune as a ‘feel-good’ song? It’s the combination of a friendly beat, cheerful lyrics and an extra touch of magic that you can’t quite put your finger on. Give these jams a listen and let the good vibes take over.

Happy – Pharrell

There’s a reason this song blew up like it did last year. Why exactly does happiness feel like a ‘room without a roof’? We may never know, but Pharrell captures the mood perfectly.

Mr. Blue Sky – Electric Light Orchestra

It was a beautiful view of the Alps from his Swiss chalet that inspired Jeff Lyne to write this happy, ‘Beatlesque’ tune. The song has since featured on the soundtrack of numerous films and was used in the closing ceremony at the 2012 Olympics in London.

My Girl – The Temptations

“I’ve got sunshine on a cloudy day. When it’s cold outside, I’ve got the month of May…” Motown icons The Temptations describe the bliss of falling in love with idyllic lyrics and smooth, melodious vocals.

Move Your Feet – Junior Senior

Danish duo Junior Senior made it to #3 on the UK charts with this feel-good blend of house, dance and funk. It’s just goofy enough to work!

Sir Duke – Stevie Wonder

One of Stevie Wonder’s many joyful jams, this ode to jazz legend Duke Ellington is an instant toe-tapper. It’s also evidence that more songs need harmonising trumpet-plus-saxophone interludes!

You Only Get What You Give – New Radicals

This uplifting number from one-hit-wonders New Radicals has that classic late-90s sound. It’s a brilliant reminder that there was more to that era than boybands and teen pop princesses.

Boogie Oogie Oogie – A Taste of Honey

Disco music certainly had its ups and downs. But this iconic jam from the disco era does the genre proud. Listen and just try to resist pulling those bellbottoms out of mothballs.

It’s A Beautiful Day – Michael Bublé

Leave it to Michael Bublé to make an uplifting break-up song. If anyone was going to do it, it was the Canadian crooner, whose discography is chock-full of feel-good jams.

Good Vibrations – Beach Boys

Surfs up! These Californian lads mastered the laid back, ‘beachy keen’ sound back in the ‘60s, and their music still has a way of transporting you to somewhere warm and sunny.

What a Wonderful World – Louis Armstrong

You can always count on this sweet, simple song to offer some perspective when you’re feeling low. It’s a reminder that a world with such beautiful things as newborn babies, red roses and vibrant rainbows can’t be all that bad.
