Who does the best tea and cake? 3 places in Yorkshire to indulge for Afternoon Tea Week

If you really want a decent cuppa, your best bet is to go to Yorkshire – the unofficial tea capital of Britain.

And with Afternoon Tea Week (August 14-20) in full swing, these three places are well worth a visit.

Splash out on something special

This five-star hotel is ideal for a special occasion, with a selection of afternoon tea menus available. All are served in elaborate surroundings; pick dainty cakes from silver tiered trays, while admiring views of York’s historic City Wall.

Choose a Hendrick’s Tipsy G&Tea for gin-lovers, served in a Hendrick’s teapot, which comes with Yorkshire fettle and sunblushed tomato tartlets, date sponge with stem ginger frosting – and many other treats.

And keep kids entertained with a Children’s Afternoon Tea designed specifically for younger diners; simple ham, cheese and jam sandwiches are accompanied by brownies, jelly and gingerbread.

Price: From £25.50. Throughout August, The Grand is offering a 25% discount (excluding Saturdays).

Go for a modern interpretation
