Funeral plans guarantee so much more than Over 50s policies

Making financial preparations for the future, and in particular your funeral arrangements, makes good sense. For most people saving little and often makes it more affordable. Some people choose to buy an Over 50s policy to help provide money towards their funeral.

However, did you know you may end up paying more in to an Over 50s policy than it ever pays out? This is because the amount the policy provides at the end is fixed, but the longer you live, the more you pay in.

Unlike a funeral plan, there is no guarantee that the pay-out from an Over 50s policy will be enough to cover the cost of your funeral. You could end up leaving your loved ones with more to pay.

You may also consider you have your funeral plans firmly in place and the means to pay when the time comes through a Will, which details your funeral wishes, or in a savings account which is earning interest.

Making provisions in a Will can cause timing issues regarding the release of funds. Most savings accounts, if not all, won’t currently pay enough interest to keep pace with the rate in which funeral costs are rising.

What’s more, Over 50s policies and savings don’t include a note of any wishes for your funeral arrangements, nor any help with these, so your family will still have to manage this themselves.

Plan your funeral, your way

A prepaid funeral plan is the most practical and cost-effective way to take care of funeral costs and arrangements in advance.

Not only does the plan fix the costs of the services it covers, but you can also document your wishes, so your loved ones are spared the additional pressures of trying to arrange the perfect send off for you. You can document as much or as little as you want, and change your mind at any time for no additional cost*.

Dignity – the prudent choice

Dignity introduced the UK’s first funeral plan in 1985. Since then, Dignity has helped nearly one million people^ plan for their funeral in advance, more than any other provider.

If you choose to pay for your funeral plan over more than 12 months, and pass away before you’ve finished paying for it, Dignity will cover your outstanding balance.

Dignity won’t ask your loved ones to pay a penny more than you’ve already paid for all the services included in your plan. That’s the Dignity promise**.

And for Silversurfers members, there’s £150 cash back on all Dignity funeral plans. To find out more and request your FREE guide today, call 0800 008 6385 and quote SSU6ND

*The costs of the services in your chosen plan are fixed but some requests may incur an additional charge and may not be covered by Dignity’s price guarantee. Any costs incurred from these requests will have to be paid for at the time of the funeral or alternatively a contribution can be made towards these costs which will increase each year in line with the Retail Price Index (RPI).
