Questions to ask before purchasing a Pre-Paid funeral plan

What are important questions to ask when considering the purchase of a Pre-Paid Plan?

You’ve decided to buy a funeral plan but want to make sure you’ve chosen the right one. There’s a lot of choice out there and what suits one person, might not suit you, so researching all the options is the best way forward.

Once you have found a plan that you are ready to go ahead with, try asking yourself the following questions to make sure you are making the right decision for you.

Is the plan fully guaranteed?

In other words, will all the services in your plan be fully covered with nothing more for your family to pay at the time of your funeral? When looking at buying a funeral plan, make sure you check whether all the third party charges are covered. These are charges that the funeral director has to pay out on your behalf, i.e. to the crematorium. Some funeral plan providers only offer a contribution to these costs, meaning there could be a shortfall that your family will have to pay at the time. Sometimes the contribution will rise in line with inflation, but even so may not be enough to cover the whole cost.

Co-op Funeralcare fully guarantees all services within your chosen plan, including the third party costs. This means however much prices rise in the future, your loved ones will have nothing extra to pay.*

Can I cancel the plan if I change my mind?

Make sure to check the cancellation policy before taking out a funeral plan with any provider, as you may want time to think or discuss details with those closest to you. Some may offer a cooling off period, but it’s not guaranteed.

Our cancellation policy is very transparent. We have a 30 day cooling off period, during which time you can cancel and receive a full refund. After that a cancellation fee of £250 applies.

Who carries out the funeral?

When you purchase a Co-op Funeral Plan you can rest assured that a Co-op Funeral Director will be carrying out your funeral arrangements. You can nominate a preferred local Co-op Funeral Director or leave the decision to your loved ones at the time.

Many other funeral plan providers don’t have their own funeral homes, and so quality can’t always be guaranteed.

Have you thought about what happens if you’re planning to move to a different part of the country at a later date?  What would happen to your funeral plan?

With over 1,000 funeral homes nationwide, we’re nearby when you need us. Your funeral plan is not linked to a specific funeral home, unlike some other providers, and so when you move, the plan moves with you.

We can help you plan your funeral and when the time comes, it’s us who will carry out your wishes too. We are here to guide you through, every step of the way. We’ll explain all the options available and give you all the time you need to make the right decision.
