There’s no such thing as a one size fits all funeral

These days, you don’t need to follow tradition when it comes to arranging or planning a funeral.

More people are choosing to celebrate the lives or their loved ones with a unique and non-traditional funeral service. One of the ways people do this is through the choice of a coffin.

Traditional coffin or something more unique, what would you want?

Although traditional wood coffins, either in veneer or solid wood, are still the most popular choice, these are by no means the only option when choosing a coffin.

Coffins can be made from lots of different materials, such as bamboo, wool, wicker, cardboard, willow, and even recycled materials.

Picture coffins or caskets are also growing in popularity, with families choosing to reflect on their loved ones interests or job through their choices. From sporting themes, to RAF planes, to mountain views, a picture coffin can really add a personal touch. You can also write messages or have photographs printed on the coffin itself.

Mementos inside the coffin

Sometimes people also like to place mementos inside the coffin, such as photographs, letters, wedding rings, watches, spectacles and medals.

However, laws affecting crematoria emissions mean that some items may need to be removed before the cremation and returned to the family. A recent rise in families sneaking in things like e-cigarettes, alcohol and mobile phones has seen crematoria asking people to be considerate regarding the items they place into coffins before a cremation.

Have you shared your wishes?

Whether you would like to keep with tradition or have something more unique in mind, it’s worth making sure your family know so that they can carry out your wishes when the time comes.

You could simply talk with the people close to you to let them know, or you could look into taking out a Co-op Funeralcare funeral plan. That way, not only are your wishes written down and all of the decisions made, but everything is paid for at today’s prices with nothing more for your loved ones to pay.
