Do the current political campaigns affect the way you will vote?

image

The mudslinging and character assassination is in full swing with the run up to the General Election.

The parties are resorting to any tactics to try and get your vote, and there are still 4 weeks to go until the British public cast their votes,  to determine the final outcome.

Are you enjoying the campaigns and television debates? Do you feel well informed about the manifestos on the table? Or are you fed up with the campaigns and already know which way you intend to vote?

Do the current political campaigns affect the way you will vote?

502 people have already voted, what's your opinion? Yes No

One of my grave concerns is the squandering of money on HS2. All the main parties support it (not Greens or UKIP) and at a projected cost of £50 billion ( 2011 prices) it is a vanity project we cannot afford...especially with the enormous black hole in the NHS. Report after report says that there is no business case , yet still the government persists...and Labour intends to continue too. Why?

I think we should end electing a government and employ professional people to do the job. If they don't do their job properly, they get the sack. No waiting several years to get rid of them.

With regard to the electorate being able to vote their elected MP out of office if they were unhappy with them, (true democracy, being voted out by the very same people who footed them in!) there was a vote in the House earlier this year for this to happen. Needless to say, which way do you think the MP's voted?

I think the current system is all wrong. We should have online voting and proportional representation which would make life a lot fairer. The current system is way out of date and means that smaller parties cannot get a look in. Of course Labour & the Tories will never let this happen its not in their best interest. I think most people have got a good idea of who they vote for especially the over 50s. Its the youngsters who are probably more fluid in their voting

Will always vote but wish we could have proportional representation as in more modern assemblies. Our current system can give an huge majority of seat to a party with less than 50% of the votes - is that really democratic?

The problem with the current system is that there are so few seats where your vote can actually make a difference. The conservatives have such a large majority where I live that there is little point in voting as nobody else has a chance. I think most people know which way they will vote and only a few will really change their minds over the course of the campaign. Unfortunately it's the swing voters in a handful of marginal seats that hold the balance of power.

I would prefer proportional representation too, but unfortunately when we had the opportunity in a referendum the majority voted against.
I wish that politicians would answer questions, but they never do.
I have always voted, even though where I live my vote doesn't count.
