Are voters happy with the NHS?

image

With all the main parties fighting over the NHS and who can sort out all the main issues like waiting times, over spending and delays to operations, a new survey has just been released that shows people are happier than ever with the NHS.

The survey was carried out late last year with 1,900 people being asked their views. Only 15% said they were dissatisfied with the services provided. Mike Porter, Chairman of the British Medical Association, said the survey results showed “that NHS staff go the extra mile to ensure that patients are the last to suffer from the impact of pressures on the health service”

What’s your view? Is the NHS providing a great service? Is there any area of the NHS that causes you concern?  Which party would you trust the most to make a difference to the NHS?

Are voters happy with the NHS?

Just waited 9 weeks for the results of a MRI and must now wait a further 11 weeks for an appointment to see a consultant. In constant pain from hips and back.

NHS STAFF are generally ok, but the way the NHS is managed by the Government is not. Why do we have to spend our NHS money, which we have contributed to all our lives, on things we do not need like a coloured cone outside the Isle of Wight main hospital? Stop wasting our hard earned money on stupid sculptures, and stop murdering unborn babies by abortion choice with NHS money!! Then they can give really sick cancer patients the drugs they are not allowed in some areas.

I generally agree that the medical staff in the NHS do a great job, but they are being let down by the bureaucracy and the non-medical managers and their staff (plus large salaries). My experiences of the NHS have been positive, I can even get to see a doctor in my local surgery usually the next day. However, to say it is for free is a bit of a misnomer, as the majority of us have all paid in with our taxes and national insurance contributions . I bellive that all foreign nationals should have a medical insurance card to be allowed treatment, just as we have if we go abroad - should really be not to hard to administer should it? Its the mismanagement and waste of money on nonessential procedures and office decoration I am concerned about.

It's cracking under the strain. Too many patients! I had to wait for 3 weeks to get a repeat apptmt when I had pneumonia. Then was sent for bloods and xrays when I was actually getting better - so a waste of money. Physio is a joke - 6 week wait, can't hardly walk meantime. So if I was on my own I would have died of starvation! then the treatment is just exercises and paracetamol when my injury needs a scan and manipulation. Only remedy - pay privately. So we end up paying twice and what about the people who can't pay privately (soon to be me at this rate!)
STOP HEALTH TOURISM - that will get us a long way forward. My Polish tenant's father lives in Poland but pretends he lives in Uk to get dental treatment! Do you seriously think we'd get free treatment abroad?

I have been unlucky enough to have had a serious illness, this has really opened my eyes as to how bad the hospitals really are.
I went through the motion of complaining and realised that it was all a whitewash
In the end I told them that I wasn't frightened of my illness anymore because I thought I would die from their treatment.
There is nowhere else to go if you are not happy so I have made my mind up that I will never go into hospital again.

I am concerned about the money spent by the NHS on "bank" nursing. Either a person works for the NHS or they don't, i.e. set hours part or full time. I believe agencies take a hefty proportion of the hourly money earned by bank nurses. The clinics I have visited recently seem to manage on an ever-changing parade of professionals. Are they all qualified? There is no continuity in some clinic areas. Perhaps someone on here knows the ins and outs?

No Party that caused a financial problem has ever managed to solve the problem they caused when relected. Wales take note.

The NHS where I live in Surbiton is superb. GP appointments are available same day if required, if referred to an outpatient department, the wait is usually less than two weeks.

One of the reasons the NHS is so good in Surbiton is that most people take care of themselves, not many obese folk, people take plenty of walks, drink moderately and eat a good diet.

I am a recently retired nurse. In the main the staff in the NHS work bloody hard with inadequate resources. I fear that the propaganda is working, tell us often enough that the NHS is failing and we will believe it. I have relatives in the USA and the major outgoing after their mortgage is health insurance, not a small amount either. They do not see a G.P. unless in dire need as each visit costs £30 before treatment. They use over the counter remedies after consulting a pharmacist. If we are not careful, the Government will bring in privatisation by the back door, then we really can start moaning (and bemoaning the loss of our wonderful NHS).

We over abuse the system and half the people sat in A&E should not be there. Because it is free it is abused.
Make the drunks falling over on a night out pay for their stitches. Fine people who don't turn up for their appointments.
Something's will have to change.

I think both the waiting times for operations or consultations is disgusting I have been waiting since last October for prolapse surgery and after telephoning appointments department myself have now only managed to get a consultants appointment for February meanwhile the GP's have had me on seven different antibiotic's from October and I have been more or less housebound because of this also waiting for Urology appointment due to infection lasting from October so hopefully will not turn out to be something drastic.

The NHS is very good where I live in the North East. However I do think free treatment should be only for people who have paid into the National Insurance system. Giving free treatment to anyone who turns up is ridiculous, we have to have health insurance when we go abroad. We should stop being a soft touch.

My two year old granddaughter who needs an operation for cerebral palsy but cannot get it because there is not enough funding. I also know of a five year old boy who needs the operation but his parents are having to raise the funds ( £60,000 ) on their own as there is no funds for this life changing operation.

My sister died thanks to a neglectful consultant ( that kept cancelling her appointment ) as he was to busy to see her the tumour that he misdiagnosed killed her at the age of 54.

My father was misdiagnosed at the age of 70 who was told by a consultant that he had a severe stomach bug in fact it was bowl cancer.

My mother died at the age of 40, due to a GP misdiagnoses sending her away and telling her to come back in three months if it was no better ( the cancer had grown to the point of no return )

These are a everyday occurrence throughout the NHS, some worse than others.

Yet are faithful government will tell us different as they slash another few billion pounds off the NHS budget, while giving it to the EU and third world countries and telling us what a fantastic job our glorious leader is doing to the NHS.

Yes I am angry !! VERY

I can always get an appointment both with our GP and Hospital. This did not used to be so a few years ago. We both have health issues, [as one sometimes does with age!] but have the highest regard for the NHS. however I do think the staff carry the burden and would like to see more support for them. We should also be saying 'Thank you to the individuals we consult.

I guess you must be one of two people.

Working for the NHS or someone that is very luck !

I will pass on your comments to my two year old granddaughter who needs an operation for cerebral palsy but cannot get it because there is not enough funding. I also know of a five year old boy who needs the operation but his parents are having to raise the funds ( £60,000 ) on their own as there is no funds for this life changing operation.

Yes the NHS are certainly doing a fantastic job ( not )

I have always found the NHS to be absolutely excellent. The only time I had an issue was years ago when on a Friday night I had to take one of my daughters to A&E and we had to wait hours as the poor staff were inundated with drunks and people injured in fights. Crazy situation. My view would be drunks go to the back of the Queue!
