Freedom To Be…

Aura Flushable pouches are giving colostomates back their freedom

In the media

There has been quite a lot in the media about ostomies, with more people now sharing images of their stoma pouches and posting on social media in order to raise awareness.

The Freedom To Be campaign – what’s it all about?

The Freedom To Be campaign is raising awareness that a flushable, colostomy pouch range is available and shares the experiences of those who have regained a sense of freedom since trying it for themselves.

Over the past few months, we have heard from Vicki and Michel. Now Nancy is sharing her thoughts and feelings about the difference using a flushable colostomy pouch has made to her life. Head to the campaign website to hear from Nancy and to see more stories just like these.

Nancy’s story

Nancy lives in Marple, near Stockport and is very involved with her local church community. As a former singer, she particularly enjoys music and she loves to play the piano. Since discovering Aura Flushable, Nancy has even applied for a new passport to take advantage of her new found freedom.

An important factor for Nancy in choosing the Aura Flushable pouch was that it offered much more discretion when she needed to change her pouch away from home. “With the old pouches, I would have to place it in the black bag and put in my handbag and take it home… I couldn’t think of anything else to do with it.”

Aura Flushable is a flushable colostomy pouch available on prescription which combines the latest flushable technology with the added comfort Manuka honey. The inclusion of medical grade Manuka honey may help to promote healthy skin around the stoma.

Both the inner liner and flange contain biodegradable materials and can be flushed in domestic toilets, septic tanks and single flush siphonic systems and is proven not to block domestic pumping stations.*

The importance of finding the right pouch

It’s important for people to find a stoma pouch that suits their individual lifestyle and needs. Nancy remembers using her old pouches and has noticed a huge difference in her life now.

“Using the flushable pouches really is the difference between struggling and not struggling. It makes life easier and less of a worry because you’re not thinking about putting it all in a bag and taking it with you. You know that you can just flush it in the loo and honestly, it’s just easier and more comfortable. Having a pouch is not the easiest thing in the world, so anything that can be done to ease our journey through this episode in our lives, it’s got to be good.”
