Do you have a vulnerable elderly relative who lives alone?

Would you like to know that they’re doing OK and following their normal routine?

BenignEye™… ”helping you care when you can’t be there!”

BenignEye™ is a new and unobtrusive system designed to provide peace of mind for those of us who have an elderly relative living alone.

It uses a collection of low-cost sensors in conjunction with a ‘plug-and-play’ controller with a clever self-learning capability. It observes how your loved one moves around their house and interacts with the appliances within it and determines what pattern of behaviour appears to represent normality for that individual. It might be that your relative goes to bed between 23:00 and 23:30, gets up once during the night, gets up again in the morning between 08:00 and 09:00 and has their first cup of tea of coffee at around 09:30.

Once this benchmark has been established, the system will send you alerts via email if the normal pattern of behaviour is broken – it might be that the monitored individual has a disturbed night and is observed on the landing in the night more than is normal, or they get up later than normal, or they access the kettle or the fridge later than normal (or not at all). It can also alert you if the temperature of the house gets too warm in the summer or too cold in the winter.

Once you have been alerted, you can give them a call to check that everything is OK.

In addition to the automated alerts, you can also gather a summary report from the system using a Smartphone ‘app’. It will tell you the last events from yesterday (which tells you what time they went to bed), the first events from today (which tells you about activity in the night and their first use of the kettle and/or fridge), and the latest events from today (which gives you an indication of where they are now)

BenignEye™ system is coming soon, but it’s already attracting attention. It was selected for a Care Apps ‘Showcase’ by the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS), has appeared in the ‘Tech’ section of the Guardian Online and was nominated for a Flintshire Business Award in Innovation 2016.

We’re looking for some early adopters to act as pilot installations for the system so if this is something you might be interested in, please get in touch at the email address below. A small number of systems will be provided free of charge, whilst some others will be provided at a significant discount, with a buy-back option after 6 months. Details available on request.

So, the question is – do you know how your elderly Mum, Dad, Gran or Grandad is doing today?

And if the answer to that is “No”………..wouldn’t you like to?
