3 simple ways to organise your medication

Remembering what time to take your medication, how much, and when can leave you in a bit of a muddle

But when you need to take a number of different medicines or vitamins a day, forgetting or accidentally taking it twice can have a big impact on your day, and can even be dangerous. That’s why we’re sharing our 3 simple and proven tips to help you stay on top of your medication.

1. Make a routine

It sounds simple, but integrating when you take your medication into your daily routine will make you less likely to forget. It’s best to choose something you do every day, even when you’re away from home. Do you always start your morning with a cup tea or coffee? Then this could be a good time to set aside for taking your medication and vitamins. If you have to take a dosage in the evening, why not take it when you brush your teeth before bed? Having your medication by the sink ready will help remind you it’s time to take them (Be careful to keep out of reach of small children). Before long taking your tablets will become second nature to you, just like when you pop the kettle on first thing in the morning.

2. Create an alarm

Setting an alarm on your phone, tablet or computer is another effective way of remembering when to take your medication. If you have to take regular dosages throughout the day you can set as many alarms as you need. Using your phone alarm as a reminder can be especially helpful if you’re away from home but still need to take your medication regularly.

3. Pillboxes

Pill organisers are a useful tool for organising medication. They come in a variety of sizes, with choices between once, twice or four times daily. With compartments for different days of the week, and some different times of day, you can pre-plan what you need to be taking and when. The different sections make it easy for you to see whether or not you’ve taken your dosage, reducing the risk of missing or taking a dosage twice. There are a huge variety of pillboxes available for every requirement, from multi-coloured, braille, easy to open, travel sized and even ones with detachable compartments for when you’re travelling.
