Sustainable face masks made from 100% recycled ocean plastic

As the world battles the Covid-19 pandemic, it is facing an increasing threat to the collective battle against plastic pollution. MAASK are doing their bit to flatten the curve.

The demand for personal protective equipment (PPE) has led to exponential usage of single use plastic with limited recycling capabilities. Providers of fair, quality products at this critical time; MAASK offers a solution for those who want to protect themselves in public, whilst continuing to protect the environment and the world’s oceans.

100% recycled

The performance fabrics of all MAASK products are created from 100% recycled ocean plastic waste. Manufactured in Europe, MAASK wearables are also only ever made to order to help prevent unnecessary wastage. When a MAASK is purchased, the consumer is contributing to cleansing our oceans, as well as helping to protect the wider environment from the effects of single use protective equipment.

On the current issue of plastic wastage in the fight against Covid-19, Callum Davis, Co-Founder of MAASK said:

The world has had to deal very quickly with the fight against Covid-19, and in doing so has used high amounts of single use plastic to create PPE, face masks, and hospital products. We wanted to create a product that offers a sustainable option for those wishing to wear a face mask but also to ensure they are being ethical in doing so.”

Donating masks to front line workers

With demand for protective equipment at an all-time high and highly sought after for those on the frontline; MAASK will be donating two medical grade masks for every face mask it sells, to help ensure it has a positive impact within the community.

Our sustainable masks are hand stitched from fabric created out of recycled ocean plastic. They have an internal pocket for a disposable protection filter which is PM 2.5 grade. This is similar to FFP1 (but is not to be confused with N95/KN95 or FFP2/FFP3 which are used in medical/surgical settings). We have a FAQ’s page to help avoid confusion over mask types.

These are not surgical grade masks and should not be used as such. Our masks are meant to provide a high level of protection from the transmission of water droplets and other airborne irritants. They are suitable for the general public using them for added protection in public settings such as crowded city centres, public transport, airports, shops and parks/beaches/beauty spots etc.

What are PM 2.5 Filters?

PM 2.5 filters are a special type of high-purity polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membrane filter designed to capture micro-particulates which are present in the air. They are similar in grade to an FFP2 mask which can help users protect themselves from airborne irritants and microbial matter.PM 2.5 filters protect against:

Industrial pollution
Bacteria
Dust
Pollen
Vehicle emissions

There is a lot of misinformation surrounding face masks so we have created a FAQs page to make sure every customer has all the information they need to make an informed purchase.
