Say No To Smoking for World No Tobacco Day

31 May is World No Tobacco Day, a global initiative aiming to raise awareness about the dangers of smoking and encourage people to quit.

The focus of World No Tobacco Day 2019 is on “tobacco and lung health.” The campaign will increase awareness on:

Tobacco is a threat to us all; it impacts our health, children, environment, personal wealth and much more.

Globally, up to 10 billion cigarettes are disposed of every day – in coastal and urban clean ups, cigarette butts account for 30-40% of all items collected. The smoke emissions from tobacco cigarettes and other products release thousands of tonnes of human carcinogens and greenhouse gases into our atmosphere each year.

On a personal level, the impacts of smoking are no less staggering. It kills more than 7 million people every year – global annual costs in healthcare as a result of tobacco use are more than $1.4 trillion.

If you or someone you love is a smoker, it’s important to know it’s never too late to kick the habit – with a little determination and the right resources, you can give it up once and for all.
