Faking Thicker Hair

Print Friendly

Millions of men and women suffer from hereditary hair loss or are born with thin hair, which can be frustrating and unnerving. Thankfully the beauty industry are always coming up with new products to help make hair seem thicker.

We take a look at some of the best products currently on the market that can help you to fake thicker hair.

Thickening Shampoo And Conditioners

There are a variety of shampoos and conditioners on the market which people have found effective at thickening their hair.

One of the most affordable is created L’Oreal Elvive Fibrology Thickening Shampoo and conditioner, which normally retail at around £3.99 each. The products aim to penetrate the hair fibre, expand the hair and remain in place for a cumulative effect.

A breakthrough in the science of hair, L’Oréal Laboratories have created L’Oreal Elvive Fibrology Thickening Shampoo, proven to give long-lasting thickness wash after wash.Hair looks & feels thicker, with visible body & bounce.

Another set of products aimed at plumping fine hair are Nutrasome Thickening Shampoo and Serum. The shampoo removes oil build up from the hair so that the serum can be effectively massaged into the scalp to increase blood circulation for hair growth and provide nutrients to the roots.

There’s been a lot of press about the new influx of caffeine shampoos, with one of the most popular being Alpecin Caffeine Shampoo. The shampoo sends caffeine straight to the hair follicles to try and help stimulate hair growth at a roots level.

Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoos have increased in popularity the last few years, and for many people have become a way to keep hair feeling clean without the need for a water wash. They are also great for people with thinning or fine hair, as they can help give the appearance of extra volume.

Herbal Essences Naked Dry Shampoo is a fresh and minty smelling dry shampoo that gives hair a lift and extra texture. You just spray it on your roots and brush to distribute evenly.

The ‘Aussome Volume’ Aussie Miracle Dry Shampoo is another excellent dry shampoo for fine hair, as it can make wilting hair look thicker as well as smooth.

Volumising Serums And Hairspray

Styling your hair with targeted serums and hairspray can help give the appearance of thickness, and some hairsprays have been developed with volume in mind.

Aveda Pure Abundance Volumising Hair Spray can be used to give both a very firm hold on hairstyles as well as the appearance of more volume.

Another great hairspray for thinning hair is John Frieda Luxurious Volume Fine to Full Blow-Out Spray, which is designed with fine hair in mind and aims to make hair fuller. The accompanying Blow Dry Lotion Root Booster from John Frieda is also great to help get more volume around the crown of your head from the root up.

The Paul Mitchell Thicken Up Styling Lotion helps to give extra body to wet or dry hair. The lotion works to make hair manageable and shiny, and has thickening conditioners to give the appearance of a fuller head of hair.

Thickening Hair Powder

If you don’t find a shampoo or serum that helps to give you the appearance of thicker hair, then try a thickening hair powder.

One of the best on the market has to be Shu Uemura Art of Hair Volume Maker, which works on all hair colours. The powder is massaged onto the roots of the hair to give lift, texture and volume. At around £31 it’s not cheap, but has helped people to get more volume for thin hair.

I used to use wash and go but I now use L'oreal Fibrology shampoo and also the conditioner but I can still see the scalp in the front I have always had fine hair, my husband always cut it but when he died I left it for three years and it got so long I had it all shaved and the sponcer money £700 went to McMillon nurses I had hoped it would make my hair a bit thicker but no so I am still using the above. Sorry about the spelling mistakes I should know better at 77 years.

Are there any pull through wiglet in colors of gray to white. I have been looking for years. It seems if one is offered it is so thick that half the hair must be eliminated and even the it just does not look right. I believe if a wig maker actually offered some of these products they could make a tidy profit.
