As time passes, our oil glands shrink and stop producing oil as well as they used to, leaving our hair drier than we would like it to be.
But the good news is, restoring shine to your hair doesn’t need to involve expensive treatments – you can look to Mother Nature for a few tips.
Pure oils are becoming more and more popular with hairstylists and celebrities, as they help to naturally moisturise, renew and calm hair. You can help to restore your hair’s shine in one easy step by adding natural oil to your haircare routine.
Hydrating argan oil has become renowned as a deep conditioner, and is especially good if you have frizzy or dry hair. It’s filled with essential fatty acids, vitamin E and anti-oxidants, helping to regenerate cells, nourish and restore hair and skin.
Try rubbing some argan oil though wet or dry hair, leaving it for 30 minutes and then shampooing out to make hair feel silky and light.
If you have dry hair or a dry scalp, use argan oil as an intensive natural conditioning treatment twice a week. Massage argan oil into the roots and to the ends of your hair before you go to bed. The next morning, wash with your normal shampoo and you will feel a difference.

For hundreds of years, coconut oil has been regarded as a wonder product to restore hair. It’s used for everything from getting rid of dandruff and helping with hair loss to adding moisture and preventing hair damage, and it’s often available to buy in supermarkets.
Try gently warming a pea-sized amount of organic virgin coconut oil and massaging it in to your hair before bed to help strengthen and condition your hair naturally. If you suffer from dandruff, rub coconut oil into your scalp fifteen minutes before washing your hair. Be sure to use coconut oil sparingly – it’s such a powerful moisturiser that overuse can make your hair feel greasy.

Think olive oil is just for cooking? Think again. Olive oil is a great product for strong and healthy hair, as it is rich in vitamins A, E and antioxidants, and protects the natural keratin in hair. Olive oil is also fantastic for moisturising hair and treating dandruff, as it nourishes dry and flaky skin.
If you suffer from dandruff, try using a special olive oil treatment once a week to fight the flakes. Mix together equal amounts of lemon juice, water and olive oil, massage into your hair, leave and rinse after 20 minutes.
You can also use olive oil as a natural ‘hot oil treatment’ or in place of your usual conditioner to make your hair feel healthier and shinier.
One of the best things about using olive oil for haircare is that you can grab a bottle of it when you are in the supermarket. Make sure you go for an extra virgin organic olive oil, so it’s not been refined or had harsh chemicals added to it.
