Standout Facial Serums

Facial serums are like rocket fuel for your skincare regime; while cleaners clean the skin and remove impurities and moisturisers act as a protective layer, serums offer targeted help with a number of common problems.

As we age, serum can be a powerful antidote to dull, lacklustre skin. They also act quickly; many serums offer real, noticeable results after only a few uses.

While there are plenty of eye-wateringly expensive serums out there, great skincare doesn’t need to be expensive – there are plenty of excellent serums to suit any budget.

Here are six of our favourite standout facial serums.

Simply Pure Hydrating Serum

SimplyPureHydratingSerum

Simply Pure’s Hydrating Serum is the cheapest on our list and has enjoyed cult status since its release. At just £2.69 for a 50ml bottle, this light serum hydrates and plumps skin quickly and sits beautifully under moisturiser. While not as powerful as some of the others on our list – it won’t fight wrinkles, for example – this is a decent product safe enough for sensitive skins that will help brighten and hydrate all in one go.

The Body Shop’s Overnight Serum-in-Oil

BodyShopSerumInOil

Don’t be fooled by the slightly complicated name – the Body Shop’s Overnight Serum-in-Oil is straightforward, easy to use and among the brand’s ‘Beauty Gems’. Despite the word ‘oil’ in the name, this serum is light to the touch and doesn’t leave a greasy feeling on the skin. It helps plump dry skin and give a fresh, radiant look come morning. Dispense out 3-4 drops onto the palm and massage into your skin before bed.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair

EsteeLauderNightRepair

Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair is one of the best-selling and best-loved serums in the world – if you’re looking for a serum that can tackle sun-damaged, dull skin, this it it. It reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles, plumps skin and helps it feel smoother and more hydrated. The result? Fresher, more radiant looking skin after just a few weeks of use. While more expensive than anything else on our list so far – a small bottle will set you back £50 – you only need a few drops at a time, meaning a bottle will last you months at a time.

Lancome Advanced Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate

LancomeGenifique

Lancome’s Advanced Genifique is the most expensive serum on our list and among the priciest you can expect to find on the high street before finding the more expensive options at luxury department stores and chemists like Space NK. For the price however, this serum combats a number of common skincare woes; it can help with dullness, fine lines, hydration and uneven tone. You need just three drops at a time, and the difference is almost immediate – by the time you go to apply makeup, skin feels brighter and plumper, and when used overnight you wake up to a more radiant complexion after first use.
