Faking thicker brows and lashes

Eyebrows and eyelashes naturally thin as we get older, but that doesn’t mean you have to say goodbye to sculpted brows and fulsome lashes.

There are a few handy hints and tricks you can try for plumper looking eyelashes and fuller brows no matter what age you are.

Make more of your mascara

If you have light coloured brows, the hair you do have is likely to look even thinner than it is. Make the most of your brows with the help of a few darker tones. The easiest way to do this is to put a little brown mascara on the tip of your brow then rub it gently into the arch.

Buy the perfect dye

You can also boost your colour on a more permanent basis by buying a lash and brow dye. Choose a shade as close to your natural hair colour as possible and be sure to follow the instructions carefully.

Brush your eyebrows

Before you start applying makeup to your eyebrows, be sure to brush them up and out. This will separate and highlight the hairs you already have and make it easier for you to emphasise them.

Curl your eyelashes

Curling your eyelashes can make them look fuller and it only takes a few seconds. First, blast your eyelash curler with a hairdryer to heat the metal, then gently clamp your eyelashes for about five seconds.

Powder it up

Apply your face powder before your mascara and be sure to pay extra attention to your eyelashes – mascara will cling to the excess powder and make your eyelashes look thicker.

Become a dab hand at pencilling

A little bit of eyeliner can go a long way, especially when you use it to emphasise lids and boost the roots of your eyelashes. Apply dark liner to the inner rim of your upper eyelid.

Fill in the gaps

You can also use liner or an eyebrow pencil to fill in eyebrows that are looking a little sparse. For a softer look, use an eyeshadow that’s close to your natural hair colour to shape your brows.

Set it with gel

Once you have your eyebrows looking the way you want, smear a small blob of gel through them. This will hold your brows in place and will also add to the thickening effect.
