Can women still be gorgeous and sexy at over 50 years old?

image
Print Friendly

With so much emphasis on youth when it comes to looking beautiful, many women are left wondering if it’s still possible to look sexy when you’re over 50.

And while it might feel like a young person’s game, the truth is, it’s possible to look and feel sexy at any age, and now more than ever women are proving that wisdom and sophistication are just as powerful when it comes to feeling confident and gorgeous.

If you need proof, just look at some of the most powerful women in Hollywood as evidence – actresses like Meryl Streep, Michelle Pfeiffer, Jane Seymour, Goldie Hawn and Angela Bassett are just a few examples of sexy older women who are regularly named among the most beautiful in the world.

Looking and feeling your best

There’s an old adage that says when you feel good, you look good too – and that’s just as true at age 50 as it is at age 25. Today women are living fuller and more interesting lives than ever before; rather than being considered old, women in their 50s and 60s are in their prime – for many it’s a time when careers have matured, children are grown up and you’re in a place of more financial freedom than ever before.

There’s plenty to be confident about, and by recognising the things that make you special and celebrating your achievements it won’t be long before you start feeling good about yourself.

Making simple changes can also go a long way to helping you feel your best as well – treating yourself to a new haircut, a nice pair of shoes, or a few new items for your makeup bag could be just what you need to freshen up your look and love what you see in the mirror.

Take some time to focus on yourself. Reach for those clothes that are gathering dust at the back of the wardrobe, accentuate your eyes with a complimentary eye shadow and draw attention to your smile with some lipstick. And most importantly, always remember that looking and feeling sexy should always be on your own terms.

Beauty secrets at any age

Laser treatments, expensive night creams and Botox injections are just a few of the high-tech beauty secrets that promise to hold the key to youth and beauty, but in reality looking great is a lot simpler – and more affordable – than all of that.

If you want to look and feel sexy start with your skin. Beautiful skin makes a big difference and isn’t as difficult to maintain as you think. To keep your skin looking its best drink lots of water, get enough sleep and stay out of the sun. These three simple tricks can make a big difference in just a short time.

Make healthy eating and exercise a part of your routine as well – even walking for an hour a few times a week will help increase your energy levels, shift any extra pounds you might be carrying and help improve your mood. When you feel good on the inside you look good on the outside, so don’t trick yourself into believing that you need to go under the knife to look your best. Being sexy is as simple as taking care of yourself and focusing on your best features and attributes.

These ladies are all over 50 years old, and have been voted the top 20 most gorgeous women on the planet … take a look for yourself and let us know what do you think?

Just joined the the site. Hello to all. Would love suggestions on makeup that helps with wrinkles and on less than perfect skin and yet does not cause break outs on sensitive skin. Any fellow redheads out there? Lol. Appreciate all suggestions

Of course women can be gorgeous and sexy after age 60. But the worse thing a woman can do, in my humble opinion, no matter what age they are, is to pile on too much make-up.

Absolute no brainer, of course they are. They are mature, sensible, experienced, nothing to prove, don't need lots of make up plastered on, don't have to work at turning heads, can hold a conversation, there ain't much they cannot offer. Wish I had one!

Many women over 50 have natural beauty and need no surgeon to enhance this. Aging shows character in the face, personality develops this.

Of course they can!! At fifty you still have few wrinkles or lines, and you might be lucky and put off getting them until you are in your seventies... Just being fifty does not throw a switch and turn off charm, good manners, well dressed appearance and interest in people.. One can be enjoyable to look at, at any age, and certainly fifty is not the cut off point by any means!!

I do so agree with your comment. I am also sick to death of today's obsession with sex and the notion that everything from a teaspoon to a doormat has to be sexy, whatever that might mean. There are many, many stunning women who are in their later years and long may they reign.

As a recently divorced 60 year old woman, I can say from experience, that men seem to have a preconceived idea of what someone of my age should be. This usually follows their pattern of thinking that we must all be dried up, wrinkly, sagging, and past it ! Being sexy is a state of mind ! If you allow yourself to think otherwise then your entire persona will reflect that. I had a very long marriage and in the last few years things were awful; and I became almost invisible to everyone. Since my divorce things have changed dramatically. My sense of worth and my whole outlook have changed and yes I can say that I know I am sexy and attractive because of the reactions I now get - not just from men but from my friends and family. Age has no meaning, it is your whole being that reflects who you are; and if you let yourself feel down then you will look and feel older.
I am now in a happy relationship with a man of 64. We have a full sex life and, most importantly, can talk and make each other laugh.

I don't admit my age but retired 4 years ago. I am lucky to be healthy with few wrinkles. go to aerobics, zumba, walk unless it's very wet. All the men I have encountered of my age are positively old, act and look it. I have several men friends, all younger and had just ended a relationship with a man 10 years younger. lovely man, intellectually engaging but won't make old bones, drank and smoked too much.

Hi. I'm new to the site. I have read all the comments. I am happy to see that there are so many positive women over 50! I'm 63 (almost 64) and can honestly say that I have never been happier. I have a wonderful family consisting of a son, two amazing grandchildren and my mum of 89. I have gone through lots of ups and downs in my life (a lot of downs!) but have survived. I still work and, after being on my own for many years, have an amazing, wonderful, sexy man, of 65, in my life. I know what suits me clothes wise and get many admiring glances and comments from men. To put the tin lid on it, I was recently taken for 55! Yippee!

I'm over 70, my wife of 50 years is 68, I have never been unfaithful to her, nor she to me. The reason for this is Love. For me she is as beautiful and as sexy as the day we were married 50 years ago. I have never ever looked at another woman in my life and thought the woman was better looking, more sexy looking or more loving than my Wife is today. I wouldn't change my my wife for the world and no other sexy looking woman would ever change my mind for me. Its also not just love and sexyness that counts in any marriage, its also respect and devotion for one another. I always tell my wife every day that I love her and that I will carry her in my arms until death does us part.
We have four children, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild, they are an intricate part of our lives built on love and respect for one another. Maybe other men with their negative comments on here don't think or act as I do, they are certainly the losers in life.

Why is it, I wonder, that the majority of the spiteful comments have been written by people with male names? Those with female names generally appear to have made positive, supportive comments ... I am 51 and haven't felt sexy for a very long time, but that is my problem ... If I did, and had the confidence to say so in an appropriate article, I do not see why anyone should feel the need to belittle me. I suggest there may be a few scared egos here? Shame on you for trying to pass that off onto these wonderfully positive ladies!

Why are these so-called famous women always held up as examples.
Walk along any street in any town and see all the attractive older ladies.
Of course we are attractive. I'm a great granny, late 60's, naturally blonde, no wrinkles, bright blue eyes, a very little overweight [brought on by having to use insulin] and am often thought to be 10 years younger. Wonderful compliment, but, yes, still OK and no nips, tucks or anything else. Most of our family are in similar condition. It all depends of a person's gene pool and we are blessed, especially with good skin.

I'm not in an orchestra, but do feel justified in blowing my own trumpet!

We are genetically programmed to recognise what a prototypically attractive and healthy woman looks like. And like every species on earth, the more prototypical and healthy-looking the specimen, the more attracted to it others will be. That's nature.

Unfortunately, unlike other species, humans have a desire to extend the length of time that they conform to the prototype, and improvements in cosmetic procedures allow them to do so. Naturally they are therefore going to remain prototypically attractive.

Why does sexy and gorgeous have to equal thin and youthful looking? Because that is the prototypical template for our species.

For everyone saying they look good at 50+ stop whinging, you are who you are and if you age well then good for you.
People who have plastic surgery have it for there own reasons, and those who snipe about it and bitch about it have no idea, your not that person are you.
Why should it be up for debate whether they have had work done?.
Let people live there own lives, who cares.

I cannot speak for over 50's, but I can certainly shout for the over 60s!! My age hasn't stopped tons of men chasing after me daily. Age is only an issue for those who fear it and use it as a barrier to deprive others of their individuality. Life is diverse, on a continuum from one extreme to another. It means, no matter what age, there will always be some people who look after themselves better than others.

Clothes hide many flaws, i can guarantee without your skinny jeans holding in your saggy inner thighs, without your tight lycra tops hiding your bingo wings, furthermore the thread veins on your legs, your sunken backside and your breasts that go 0-60mph when you take off your wonder bra are the horrors that will always make me shiver, so i will always stay with beautiful black women who fair much better with age well into their 60's!!!!!!!

I met my late partner when she was 53. She was gorgeous. I called her `My Gorgeous`. Slim, quite tall and totally natural bar a bit of hair tinting. Loved a drink, ate lots of wrong things with lashings of butter. Smoked. Everything wrong, but she was still gorgeous. A female colleague referred to her as `that spectacular woman`. Can't believe I am wasting time doing this but here goes.
Being Eye candy has nothing to do with beauty. It is simply that you may look gorgeous or sexy but character flaws can be ugly and no amount of surgery can remove them. If you are a gossip you are ugly.
Being mean and unkind makes you ugly. Being jealous envious and greedy makes you ugly. Pride and vanity is ugliness. Selfishness is ugly and so is self importance. Hating and cheating is ugly. Telling lies and being spiteful, that it being ugly. Being gorgeous and sexy Is superficial.
What you think and feel makes you either ugly or beautiful.
Who can find a virtuous woman?

Can women still be gorgeous and sexy at over 50 years old ?

Yes, so long as they don't worship the sun which dries the skin & makes you wrinkly.

My wife is 50 and still gorgeous, does not smoke or drink alcohol & does not allow her skin to be burnt in the sun.

Why have all the women been chosen as an example had work done.
People like Lulu and Joan Collins selling beauty products making out that is the reason they look so good, its actually fraudulent to lie about these things. Only a fool would believe or buy their products. I think men look alot worse after 50.

Sorry steve but I would not have been interested in such a shallow attitude no matter what my age. Whod want a boyfriend whod dump u at 30??

I think the article should have been about attractiveness rather than sexiness. I may be sad but think most people are beautiful when u take the time to really look at them. Give me a genuine smile and sense of humour any day.

To me what someone does is so much more important than what they look like anyway regardless of their sex.

As a 57 year old mother of three grown up sons I am still the same slim size I was as a teenager and people often assume I am one of my son's girlfriends! No botox, surgery or filler for me - good skin care and sun protection, healthy eating, regular exercise, yoga, fresh air, no smoking, limited alcohol consumption and, most important, a cheerful, positive outlook on life have all contributed to me waking up every morning feeling great. I love wearing some of the current fashions: Skinny jeans, floaty tops, leather jackets, maxi dresses, bikinis and have the confidence to know what suits me (and what doesn't eg very short shorts and skirts, skater dresses). My sons would soon tell me if I looked like mutton dressed up as lamb.

You get mistaken for one of your son's girlfriends?? By who? lol

Anyway, its nice you have a positive outlook on life but you need to leave some of those fashion items you are wearing in the closet, no matter how young you feel, in your old age you need some class, i'm not saying you need to act like a 57 year old but you damn sure don't have the right to act and dress like a 17 year old, please remember how old you are and not how young you may feel..All the best!!!

Isn 't this supposed to be a supportive website for the over fifties? If so, do you expect readers to go 'No, women over fifty can't look gorgeous and sexy'? It should be a given that you're on the readers' side!

I completely agree with you Clair ... it is a given and it is certainly our view that women can still be gorgeous and sexy at any age!

I am a 60 year old woman who wears killer heels, skinny jeans and a biker jacket. I look good. No plastic for me, just swimming and a good diet. There is a brilliant ebook on Amazon called "I am a 60 Year Old Woman: How Did That Happen?" by S.P. HARRISON. If you are a 50/60/70 year old woman, you will love this book. It will take you back in time and it will make you laugh.
