5 Festive films for a movie night to remember

Get set for a magical festive movie night with these five festive films.

Picture this. It’s dark and cold. You have nothing you need to do this evening.

Earlier in the day, you noticed the first few neighbours putting up their Christmas trees.

There’s really only one thing for it. A festive movie night!

Time to cosy up with a blanket, plenty of snacks (go on, crack in to the family sized tub of sweets early, we dare you) and maybe even light a candle or two. Treat yourself.

The question is… what film are you going to watch?

Whether buying for yourself or as a present for a loved one, here are five films to keep on hand.

1. Holiday Inn (1942)

This classic Christmas film stars Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire as entertainers running an inn that’s only open on the holidays.

As they rival for the attention of Marjorie Reynolds, plenty of festive songs accompany the action.

“White Christmas”, perhaps one of the most famous Christmas songs ever, was actually written for the film.

Enjoy the classic black-and-white version or a colour treated update with this two-disc edition.

2. Miracle On 34th Street (1994)

Santa: is he real or not? That’s the topic under debate in heart-warming style during Miracle on 34th Street.

A feel-good remake of the original, discover or revisit the heart-warming tale of a department store Santa Claus, Kris Kringle, played by Richard Attenborough, and young girl who yearns for a proper family.

3. Elf (2003)

A relatively new Christmas film and yet it’s already gained a dedicated fan base.

Elf tells the story of Buddy (played by Will Ferrell), a human who was raised as an elf in the North Pole, as he ventures on a journey of discovery to find his dad in New York.

Packed with laughs, Elf is already a timeless Christmas comedy!

4. It’s A Wonderful Life (1946)

The uplifting story of It’s A Wonderful Life means it’s now essential pre-Christmas viewing for some.

If you somehow haven’t seen it, the film stars James Stewart and Donna Reed.

George is visited by his guardian angel, who shows him what life would have been like if he had never existed.

You’ll want to watch this again and again, every year, so it’s definitely worth adding It’s A Wonderful Life to your collection.

5. André Rieu – Christmas Around The World And Christmas I Love

So not technically a Christmas film, but what’s better than listening to some beautiful festive music, played perfectly by the talent that is André Rieu?

This Christmas Around The World and Christmas I Love DVD Pack is the perfect introduction to the celebrated Dutch violinist and composer.

And it includes crowd-pleasing Christmas songs like “Jingle Bells” and “Silent Night”.
