Clever uses for a pencil eraser

Pencil erasers are surprisingly versatile – there’s dozens of clever ways to put an old rubber to use around the home.

Here are some of our favourites. Will you give any a go?

Cushion a photo frame

If you have a photo frame hanging on the wall that won’t sit quite level because of the hook behind it, try this useful trick. Glue a pencil eraser to the back corners of your photo frames to help them stay level and prevent the wall from scratching.

Remove adhesive residue

If you peel a price sticker, barcode or bottle label off glass, ceramic or plastic it sometimes leaves an irritatingly persistent sticky residue behind. Use an eraser – it provides enough grip and friction to pull the last of the adhesive off.

Remove scuff marks

Scuff marks on floors and skirting boards can quickly and easily be rubbed away with the help of a rubber eraser. Simply erase over the mark then wipe clean with a cloth.

As an earring back

In a pinch, a small piece of rubber can work as an earring back. Pierce the earring through the rubber to secure it in place – it will hold securely until you can find your earring backing again.

A makeshift pin cushion

Rubber erasers also work brilliantly when sewing or tailoring as a pin cushion. Simply place them into the eraser to hold in place and make them easy to find when you need them. This also works with nails and drill bits, too.

Remove crayon

If your children or grandchildren have put crayon on the walls or table, you can remove it without fuss using a rubber.
