Clever uses for duct tape

Duct tape is brilliant and versatile for around the home and garden.

It’s strong, durable and sticky – perfect for a whole host of odd jobs.

Get more use out of your roll than you ever thought possible with a few of our favourite clever uses for duct tape. Will you give any a go?

Remove splinters

If you get a splinter you can quickly remove it without fiddling around with tweezers with this simple trick. Take a piece of duct tape and cover the splinter. Slowly peel back the duct tape to help pull out the splinter. Repeat as necessary.

Hide a key

Duct tape is strong enough to secure items like keys and credit cards in place, and is brilliant for hiding keys in safe spaces. Try taping a drawer key to the underside of your desk in your home office, or use a piece of duct tape to secure your house key to the bottom of a welcome mat or plant pot.

Catch flies

A piece of duct tape is an easy way to catch flies instead of swatting. Let a piece of duct tape hang from a cabinet or wall, or, even better, wrap your fly swatter in duct tape (sticky side out) and use it to catch flies.

Protect your hardwood floors

Adding duct tape to the underside of your furniture can help protect your hardwood floors from scratching.

Treat warts

Forget expensive wart treatments. Cover an unwanted wart with a small piece of duct tape and leave it untouched for several days to let the wart dry out. Make sure it doesn’t get wet and no air gets in or this trick won’t work.

Makeshift lint roller

Duct tape is brilliant and effective for picking up lint and pet hair from your clothing and furniture. Wrap duct tape sticky side out over a paint roller to make quick work of larger areas. For smaller areas, a piece of duct tape wrapped around your hand will do the trick just as well.
