Clever uses for sellotape

Sellotape can be used in dozens of weird and wonderful ways for so much more than just taping wrapping paper together.

Here are a few of our favourite clever uses – do you know any others?

As a lint roller

In a pinch, sellotape is just as effective at picking up pet hair or stray lint as a lint roller. Wrap a piece of tape around your hand twice to create a good surface area, then work in quick and light dabs.

To pick up shards of glass

If you’ve broken glass in your kitchen, rather than worrying about the tiny shards of glass that are often missed, use sellotape to dab on the carpet or floor and pick up any of the minute pieces left behind.

To clean your keyboard

Sellotape also works brilliantly to pick up dust and crumbs from your keyboard. This is most easily done when the computer is off. Fold a piece of sellotape in half, sticky sides facing outwards, then press between the keys or around any other areas where you find dirt and dust.

Hold flowers in place

Help flowers stay in place when you’re arranging a bouquet by taping them to the vase or to another stem in the arrangement.

Repair a frayed shoelace

If an old shoelace is beginning to fray, use a piece of tape to secure the end and keep it from unravelling further. This also works well with wool when you’re knitting.

Lift pollen stains from clothes & furnishings

Love lilies but hate the loose pollen stains? The pollen gets everywhere and if you’re not careful it can leave stains that are really hard to get rid. Use some tape to lift off the pollen by dabbing it in one quick movement.

Emergency blister prevention

If you have a pair of shoes that are rubbing you can use tape to cover the area until you can find a plaster. It could just prevent that blister from forming!
