Clever uses for tennis balls
Tennis balls aren’t just useful for playing tennis – there are dozens of alternative uses that have nothing to do with a tennis court.
Today we’re sharing some of our favourite clever uses for tennis balls.
Washing bedding
Feather down items like duvets and pillows can go sadly flat when it comes to washing them. Add a (clean) tennis ball to your dryer to help them puff up. This also works for winter coats and other items of clothing.
Help sore feet
After a long day, if your feet are sore, this simple trick can help relieve sore feet while you’re watching television. Place a tennis ball on the floor and then place your foot on top with your shoes off. Roll the ball around firmly with your foot to loosen the muscles.
Carry nails and pins
This useful trick is perfect for doing odd jobs around the house and garden. Cut a slit in the tennis ball and then squeeze it open. You can put in nails and pins and other small items. When you stop squeezing the ball will close. To open, simply squeeze again.
Massage your back
If you have a sore back and a massage appointment is out of the question, a tennis ball can do the trick instead. Stand against a wall and place the tennis ball between your back and the wall. Roll it slowly, placing your full weight against the wall to give a firm pressure.
Mend socks
socks that have gone thin in the heels and toes don’t need to be thrown away. Place a tennis ball inside the sock’s toe or heel – it will stretch the fabric and give you a firm surface to make stitching easier.
Cushion your hammer
If you need to use a hammer but are worried about scratching or damaging the wall or a soft piece of wood, a tennis ball can help cushion the edge of the hammer. Cut a slit in a tennis ball and then fit it over the head of the hammer. It will provide enough cushioning so it doesn’t damage your woodwork.
