The Cowboy Trail

This descriptive poem written by Irene Kerr who has been on her travels again south of Calgary then west towards the mountains.

“I hope you like my poem describing our journey”

The Cowboy Trail

The sun rose in all her glory accompanied by the larks
Time to ride the cowboy trail to the mountain parks

Tall grasses waved hello with the winds caress
Wild flowers bowed politely in colours to impress

Rich farmlands on either side flanked the trail due west
A duck family swam in a pond while others chose to rest

Bales of hay and fields of corn livestock on their farms
Horses in their paddocks or huddled to stay warm

The mountain range got closer as we experienced some elevation
The landscape ever changing towards our destination

We entered the first mountain park admired it’s welcome signs
Came across shaggy mountain sheep out beyond  the pines

The profuse provincial parks and their conservation
Established many years before for wildlife preservation

Campgrounds for recreation trails to hike mapped out
Fish off a boat out on a lake stocked with shoals of trout

Bike paths to ride around hidden from the trail
Picnic among the scented pines so pleasant to inhale

Crystal creeks and run offs water so emerald green
Glimpsed through gaps between the trees grand vistas to be seen

The large game remained elusive to shelter from the heat
Chose much cooler climes to which they could retreat

The bounty of the parks and the wildlife therein
Invites us all to visit them new adventures to begin
