“I wanna tell you a story…”
A playlist of some of Max Bygrave's most popular novelty songs
With 30 gold discs, 20 Royal Variety Performances, acting and presenting in his repertoire, Max Bygraves was a great family favourite and one of Britain’s best-loved entertainers for more than six decades.
His catchphrase “I wanna tell you a story” was an integral part of his act, along with “good idea, son!” and “big ‘ead!” which both came from his first major radio show, Educating Archie, written with his friend Eric Sykes.
Here we look back at some of his most popular novelty songs:
Gilly Gilly Ossenfeffer Katzenellenbogen By the Sea
You’re a pink toothbrush
When You Come to the End of A Lollipop
Fings Ain’t What They Used To Be
Teddy Bear’s Picnic
