Tracy Edwards MBE and a Safer World
Round-the-world yachtswoman Tracy Edwards skippered Maiden the first all-female yacht to sail around the world.
Consequently she has often sailed into wild and unpredictable waters and knows that knowledge and thorough preparation helps you stay alive.
On dry land since the birth of her daughter 14 years ago, Tracy continued to think about risk and safety, and spent two years working for the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre. Upon leaving the police she set up Safer World Training to help people stay safe online. When Tracy’s disabled mother became housebound and her brother moved to Australia Tracy realised that being connected online was the only way they could stay in touch. She was however, worried that because her mother did not understand the internet she may become a victim of fraud or identity theft.
But here’s the good news: it’s never too late to get active online and to learn how to enjoy this exciting new world safely. Safer World Training is here to help you do this.
“Whether you’re a complete novice or a wary user, this course will help you to get the most out of the internet without having to wade through any complicated online processes first. We believe that learning face to face is highly effective and our highly qualified and experienced teachers will take a personal interest in your safety online.
Participants gain a great basic knowledge about online services and learn how to stay safe in the virtual world and the real world. By the end of this course you will be able to send and receive emails safely, speak to a family member or friends via Skype, purchase an item, follow the news, swap a joke and, if you wish, have an online presence in a Social Networking environment.
We are based in the Old Boathouse beside the Thames in Putney. The training areas are bright, airy and vibrant with views of the river. Our Quarter Deck is the perfect place to relax with a coffee whilst you wait for your lesson or chat with other participants afterwards. Our environment is purposefully relaxed and friendly and we look forward to welcoming you.
