Not taking each other for granted I think is the recipe for a happy marriage. Plus obviously supporting each other through tough times. I mean at our stage of life, IMHO that is the all-important factor.

As in 'I trust you won't be going to the pub tonight?'
And, 'I trust my dinner will be ready when I get back?'
There's now't like a bit of trust.

I will have been married 40 years this year. So, my long and very happy marriage has been based around love, trust and tolerance. My husband and I have had, and continue to have, a great life together.

I would say that the secret to a long and happy life is in not getting married. I have never understand why 2 people want to 'spend the rest of their lives together.'

Many people don't get married now and it seems that you are right as many many people have multiple relationships and do not set up to "marry for life". Its down to the individual and if you meet the right people

My view after having been happily married for 30 years is to have total trust and sharing everything. Also doing what I am told!!!
