Why isn't Brief Encounter on the top ten list? I watch it on a dull winter afternoon, and it always reduces me to tears.

I agree with some of the other choices below,i like Harvey and High Noon but i really loved Bette Davis in Jezebel.I still think that the greatest Christmas film is the 1951 version of Scrooge with Alastair Sim and George Cole.Christmas Eve just isn't the same without it, a classic of British cinema.

Yes, it's a wonderful film for making you thankful for all you have and the fact you are still there to make a difference. Maybe we should make it compulsory for everyone to watch this film at least once every Christmas!!

Dr Strangelove for Peter Sellers' line "You can't fight in here. This is the war room." and for his bravura performance in three very different characters.

I love old black and white films. 'What Ever Happened To Baby Jane' with Joan Crawford and Bette Davis is a favourite, and my favourite Christmas film is 'Miracle On 34th Street' which I never get tired of watching.

Goodbye Mr Chips
Robert Donat won the Oscar with this low budget film, despite fierce competition from 'Gone with the Wind', who boasted a super star cast and a multi million dollar budget in 1939,
Robert Donat ( a local man) thoroughly deserved this win, the death bed scene always brings a lump to my throat .

I love watching "Its a wonderful life" every year just before Christmas. Makes me realise how lucky I am every year. I first saw it 24 years ago when our first daughter had just been born. We had a disaster when our house was totally wreaked by water coming from a split pipe in the roof. We were staying in a rented house and I saw the firm one evening and it made me realise how lucky we all are to have the incredible gift of life!

Chosen 'It's a Wonderful Life' though it was hard to pick just one as I also love 'All About Eve' and several other Bette Davis films, and a couple that aren't on the list.
