How are you finding your iPad?Don't have a Ipad as i use the computer and my ipod touch (plus i have a kindle)....but i'm thinking of getting something with a bigger screen either a lap top or an ipad...the only thing that concerns me is the 'shelf life' of the battery,my ipod is around 3 years old and the battery is now only holding 80% of the charge i suspect i'll need to buy a new battery soon, is the ipad the same?ViewDate:

forums v facebooki use both and also twitter. i like forums because you can get a good exchange of ideas especially if you stay on topic. i visit 'weekly menu' forums where there is no real chat, people just list their menu ideas/thank people etc housework ones where people just list their daily tasks and whether they accomplished them (great for motivation) or mention if they're struggling, other posters offer moral support.....i also like food budget ones...actually the list is endless.... on FB i fkeep in touch with old pen friends, work collegues (big mistake). i find some people use it like twitter, others like tumblr (i follow artists/photographers/authors.....plus lots of people want to friend you who you'd rather keep out of your personal life lolViewDate:

What book are you currently reading?i'm on the last pages of hotel iris, and i've had a change of plan 1Q84 can wait, i'm going to read hermann hess' 'steppenwolf' he wrote this when he was 50 so it seems like a good idea for me to read it now. 50 then (1927) was probably quite different to 50 now, it was probably considered ancient!ViewDate:

Fancy a chat?so how the week flies, it's friday eve..lol ...yes nearly the weekend again, so how have you spent your week? for me i had a lovely trip to malvern with my daughter who i shall refer to as 14. 14 gets bored easily or should i say she has flitting interests so we walked, had lunch , browsed some small shops and went to the park. it was lovely! yesterday we walked along the canal (rural where we are) and marvelled at how the countryside changes; at this time of year the banks are head high with himalayan blasam with clouds of queens annes lace underneath. on our walk, which is probably a 5 mile round trip, we meet and pass the time of day with fellow walkers, and boaters no matter the time of year and it always strikes my that at times like this we can really 'live in the moment' ......so this leads me to wonder why there is so little take up with the forums here, which is a shame. i wonder whether it's an 'age thing' (are we all too busy to participate?), or wary of others? (also an age related thing) certainly in other forums there are thriving communities so why not here?ViewDate:

Do you have any technical queries or computer kerfuffles??further news.... after much searching and filling out of email forms it seems that i can't change my security answers via an email. this is because i didn't advise apple of a rescue email address when i registered my ipod! apple info is ambiguous to say he least.....so now i have to contact their support team by phone....why not say 'if you didn't set up another email address when you registered your ****** please phone xxxxxxxx , think that may be too easy..... your ipod id is actually the email address apple send your receipts to when you make a purchase (why not say this?) perhaps i'm to impetuous..... :oops:ViewDate:

What book are you currently reading?so i'm still re-reading hotel Iris. with certain books a re-read always unlocks another level or dynamic between the characters that you missed/overlooked in a previous read. think i may pick up 1Q84 after i finish..... anyone else read that?ViewDate:

English Grammarme too, shouting at the tv that is.... i find american pronunciation particularly irritating along with the mis-use of a word (the reporter/commentator obviously thinks is cool/impressive to use) and made up words. sometimes though things can be right even though they sound wrong, ie wrigleys ad included the word teeth's, i can hear many shouting no no no teeth is plural but in this case it was used as an irregular plural, possessive.....ie the natural defenses belonging to the teeth...a good example is 'a wolf in sheep's clothing...i like things that make me think/investigate/learn.....keeps the mind active ;-)ViewDate:

Do you have any technical queries or computer kerfuffles??not so much a problem as glich, that you may already be aware of....apple suddenly, out of the blue, requested i answer security questions after i tried to download a book to my ipod, i've now locked myself out of the ipod because i couldn't remember the answers i'd given apple years ago even though they should be obvious....i now need to request a 'rescue emai' to reset the security questions, but have to find my ipod id (did i make one?) which requires me to create a new password....i went on an apple customers forum (i am the queen of forums) and even the kids can't work this out (love the language of frustration going on there lol) so much hassle involved ( that i have yet to solve), to create a simple e-mail, to reset my security settings. thought i'd give others the heads up just in case it happens to them...grrrrrr mrs angryViewDate:

English Grammardialect is far more important than spoken 'BBC' english....before the BBC everyone spoke with an accent...BBC english is based on a typical 'home counties' accent, ie no accent what so ever, i can remember finding an old dictionary that had the 'correct ' (what!! who determines what is correct and what isn't?) pronunciation in brackets following each word, with practice everyone could then speak proper lol ...ViewDate:

What book are you currently reading?ok i read on my kindle, ipod, and paper books. i read a lot, most genres but not so much in the chick-lit category. last few great reads include Just Kids by Patti Smith, The Alchemist by Paul Coelho, A Sport and a Pastime by James Salter, and A lovers Dictionary by David Levithan. My kindle has mostly self published authors, my Ipod e format thats not on kindle, and my paper includes pre e format or books that 'need' to be felt when read (so i have books on e format and paper copies.....i haven't read the fifty shades trilogy, as there are books out there in that genre that are far better reads......ViewDate:

Your views on Silver Sidekicksthis gvt program seems to have died a death however many people over 50 (and a few under 50's) still don't get it ...be on-line or lose out .. the following is a brief account of my experience on a college course.... the course was sold as beginners:computing.... yay thought i, spread sheets how to set up a web site, upload images etc, what i got despite telling the tutor that yes i knew how to switch a computer on, that i had worked with computers since 1984, that i had done o'level computing was... lets spend an hour learning where to find the on button ......the next hour was how to switch the on button off.....by the end of the 14 weeks, that i'd paid for up front for, i'd learnt .nothing. the class comprised of another woman like myself, a older guy who was a belligerent old cus and i really wondered why he was there......a couple who knew what they were doing who had a mac so why would they be encouraged to stay on a course which used microsoft? and a couple who could never remember a thing, thought it was all hilarious and didn't turn up to have the classes..... so i guess the upshot of this is one to one mentoring would be much better.ViewDate:

English Grammari think it's important...although having said that it's a pain to press the caps key at the start of each sentence. i write a lot and don't use capitals, the full stop and double space is sufficient to let someone know a new sentence has begun 9although ofor a 'professional piece i would always use:) ( just so know my business letters are prof.) erm is often used in speech when someone is thinking about what to say and whilst it's annoying would you prefer a silent gap? everyone should know their there from their they're, where, were and we're.....ViewDate:

Time to disband the EU?we should stay! why? because the EU actually protects us, the general public. in many ways!! suggest you all take a good look at the Naomi Wolf lectures !! ok she refers to the US but the same applies here..everyone needs to read basic politics! and know their political history!!! or at least have a basic knowledge of citizenship. why give a vote to people whose political knowledge is poor? (like most residents o the UK) b/c you can get a result from lack of knowledge thats why!!ViewDate:

Silversurfers Book Club - Summer 2013I read 'Gone Girl' so much hype recently about this book and tbh before i read it i thought mybe it was YA....i felt it straddled the line been ok and very good which means it lacked depth i can see how it could be so much darker and yes depraved but for me it felt as though the author was reluctant to push the envelope. basically it's a story of revenge 'you don't love me like i want you too so ...well....maybe we'll just sort that out, i'll make you love me.......but before you do ....i'll just make things really uncomfortable for you, make someone think you killed me *insert manic laugh*.......' and there that's the premise. the ending is really up the the reader if you like the mind**** story the ending takes you there, but if you're reading this for the thiller/mystery angle then it's weak as water. I think i gave 4 stars on GRs with no review.ViewDate:

Some say middle aged is a state of mind ....@sundown middle age 35...omg!i really do hope you're joking.... .age is all in the mind, think yourself old and you will be, using your age as an excuse for not doing something? you'll age quicker than you can you can say boo! the problem most people make is giving 'permission' to others to put them into a box labelled 'old' ....most of us are defined by others, others tell us how we should act, what we should like, what we should be doing at certain times in our lives.... this is all * ( insert which ever word you like)....btw i'm 52
