Growing Schizostylis in potsNine months ago I transplanted my schizostylis into pots. I split them into 4 clumps. One of which is on a balcony (window ) box and it is now in flower! The other three clumps will be put into a lighter area to see if they too will flower. But I didn't lose them, thankfully.ViewDate:

Speakers Corner CommentsI don't mind in the least Ian, do you honestly feel Britain has the same standing now as when you were a youngster? If so...... lucky you! I was not looking down at the less fortunate I was merely making an observation of the way my world has changed. There is no shame in noticing how things have gone down hill, My eyes are open, I refuse to believe life is good when BY MY OWN EXPERIENCE Britain is losing ( or has lost ) it's standing in the world. Also I dread having to buy anything new because I know it wont last as long as whatever it is I'm replacing.ViewDate:

Speakers Corner CommentsMany thanks for your optimistic reply Yodama, I too would like to see a documentary on British industry and Britain in general. I'm sure it would benefit lots of people who feel the same or similar to me. At the moment I feel Britain is lost and floundering in the water while others clamber over us to stay afloat. Maybe I am feeling this way because most of what has been familiar to me throughout my life, not only produce but also a way of life, is gone. I count myself lucky the be at my stage of the life cycle as I doubt I could cope with all the uncertainty which seems to surround us today. It will be a long haul back to regain 'Pride In Britain' - maybe this could be the title of the documentary, which is sorely needed by some.ViewDate:

Speakers Corner CommentsNo going back where I live. Although we were mainly known for our mills and manufacturing the world over, the old mills have been either flattened, turned into private apartments or converted for the student population which is growing faster than I can count! As a young woman I was proud to be British, as the old lass I am now I find very little to feel proud of. I'm sure there must be something, but.............. can someone help me out here PLEASE.ViewDate:

Silversurfers Book Club Summer 2017I own a kindle. I've had it for about a year and I've never bought a book yet. There are so many free books to download on Amazon and Bookbub etc. I don't need to buy any. I just chose the genre I'm in the mood to read and "buy" the ones that appeal to me. I love my kindle.ViewDate:

Speakers Corner CommentsWhy is everything we buy nowadays such poor quality? Fabric is much thinner, cutlery is such poor quality it bends, electrical goods break or wear out much quicker. It seems as though the word "quality" doesn't exist in Britain.ViewDate:

Would you like to see Woolworths back on the High Street?I would also like to see a resurgence of the High Street. Walk onto my high street and there are empty shops everywhere! I want to try on clothes and shoes and would like to see and try before I buy without the hassle of crossing my fingers or having to return goods.
