Are you worried about Tata's Steel option on pension change?I have a deferred pension with British Steel rather than Tata. There are a number of industries where the pension is originally tailored to the nature of the work in hazardous conditions, and/or where the worker might have a limited life expectancy due from working in certain environments. Our politicians and the heads of these corporations have gilt-edged pensions which are usually inflation-proof and are 'earned' from usually a much shorter term of employment. Sometimes, they also slip into paid board memberships of companies they have dealt with during their work. It is morally indefensible for them to renegotiate existing pension terms for workers, especially those who work in hazardous industries, merely for their convenience in take-over negotiations and cost saving exercises.ViewDate:

Win an iPad Mini (16GB, Wifi) in our Prize Draw!I volunteer as a Digital Champion - teaching older people how to use computers and how to make the most of being online. Many of the people I teach are bought iPads and Tablets by their families, so this would be a great teaching aid.ViewDate:

Is Chris Evans a suitable replacement presenter for Top Gear?I never watch 'Top Gear', so Chris Evans is a good choice as far as I am concerned. If the presenter had an exclusive contract which meant they were unable to appear on other TV programmes, or comment about other topics outside of motoring issues, I would have hoped they would have chosen Katie Hopkins.ViewDate:

Tablet vs LaptopOne thing we shouldn't overlook is the physical ability of the person to use the computer equipment. I have come across no end of silver surfers who have struggled using the latest tablet or smart phone because it was recommended by a grandchild 'who knows all about computers and the internet', or by a salesperson eager to reach their own personal sales targets. Obviously, I'm not suggesting we lose all our faculties in the flick of a switch as we grow older, but as our eyesight deteriorates it is easier to use a larger screen (from 15" or above) if you spend longer online. If you suffer from arthritic pain a standard keyboard might be more suitable to a touchscreen with smaller keys. Even a using a touchpad might be difficult, and a mouse, or better still a tracker-ball mouse, could be better suited. Each piece of computer equipment is simply a different computer tool. We should just the use the most suitable tool for the job. If you prefer to use one while you are out and about use a mobile device such as a smart phone, tablet or netbook. For people who want to use a computer from home a laptop or desktop model might be better suited. It's horses for courses.ViewDate:

Do you use regular forums or do you prefer facebook?I introduce older people to computers and teach them how to become silver surfers. When I introduce them to social networks I generally find that the ladies prefer sites like Facebook where it's easy to keep up-to-date with friends and family, while the men are more likely to use a specific forum such as a football (usually associated to a specific club) or a hobby (such as DIY or photography). Some of things that they both enjoy is joining Facebook to also get access to Spotify and get access to free music downloads, and researching their ancestry. Bilbo -
