Have motorists forgotten their manners? On a recent visit to the UK I was once again confronted with the usual aggressive and arrogant attitude of a large majority if drivers. I do think a large part of the problem can be linked to the lack of discipline in schools/homes and the 'pussy footing' attitude of the 'do-gooders' and politically correct brigade. If children (who then become adults) are taught discipline and where the boundaries are then theywill grow up respecting others! I live in Spain where, although the traffic is much lighter it still travels quite fast and with little regard of other users but without the aggression of the UK - The same can be said of other European countries, it's just the UK that has the 'me me me' mentality.ViewDate:

Is 16 too young to join the Army?I agree with those who suggest a return to conscription - I have lived in Spain for 20 years and when I first came here Spain still had limited conscription - something like 1 in 10 young men were called up at 18 - it was considered an honour to be one of them and I know quite a few who went from being rebellious arrogant children to respectful, smart, polite young men between their first call up and first leave!! Since Spain stopped conscription the general attitude of youngsters here has slowly declined and most older people wish conscription was re-introduced.ViewDate:

This Winter is mild compared with 1963!I remember it well - My school was 9 miles away and we turned up at the bus stop on the first day of term and the 45 minute route took 3 hours! - we arrived at the school gates wondering if we would be told off but instead were told to go straight back home and that the school was closed for 2 more weeks! - Great news for a 14 years old!ViewDate:

Is climate change an urgent problem? If you check back in history all the so called 'catastrophes' labelled 'global warming' have happened before! Whilst I could perhaps be persuaded that the modern world is speeding things up I firmly believe that what the 'scientists' are labelling global warming is just a natural cycle of events:- what wiped out the dinosaurs, for example? - if this was a natural phenomonen then something similar will surely happen again and I don't hear the doom mongers blaming man for the loss of dinosaurs!!ViewDate:

Would you consider retiring abroad? My wife and me moved to Spain 20 years ago - at the time we ran an hotel but are now retired. It was the best thing we ever did! Our daughter followed us and is now married to a Spaniard and we have two lovely grandchildren. The Spanish way of life is more relaxed, the people are friendly and we often get involved in conversations with complete strangers. Our visits back to the UK are becoming less each year as we find it too hectic, the people so insular and often rude and, as for the traffic!, enough said! Give me Spain any day.ViewDate:

Would you be prepared to pay more tax to fund the NHS?Firstly may I say that I didn't vote on this matter because I live in Spain. Secondly, I would like to tell you about the Andalucian Health Authority - I live in a small mountain village inland from the Costa del Sol. We have a Doctor's surgery which is open 24/7/365!! - There is an ambulance also on site and when this is needed it always travels with a Doctor and a Paramedic on board. As a resident I have a medical card which contains all my medical history and it isprogrammed in such a way that any Doctor within the NHS can access my records. Also, any medication prescribed is entered onto this card and any Pharmacy can access the info. but not themedical record. This levelof service is not unique to where I live but is available throughout Andalucia - the system is run chiefly by the Doctor's with a small administration team behind it - there are no multi layers of management 'creaming' off the top!!ViewDate:

Would you be prepared to pay more tax to fund the NHS?Having read most of the comments to date the one thing nobody mentions is that the NHS in England is top heavy with self serving managment who take huge salries and contribute nothing to the welfare and care of patients - start at the top and work down -cut out several layers of 'management' who are paid to do nothing and then start at the other end and get tough with patients who clog up the system -missing appointments, goingto A&E withminor problems etc.ViewDate:

Would you consider France as a family holiday destination? As a family we took holidays in various parts of France and found that the people in the south were likely to be friendlier than those in the north - however, these days I am rather biased as I have lived in Spain for 20 years. I live in a small mountain village 18 Kms from the Mediterranean and have to say that the only downside to living here are the ignorant and , sometimes, arrogant Brit tourists who treat the lovely Spanish locals like ******!!ViewDate:

Do you think university tuition fees should be scrapped?Very succintly put - and exactly right. Also, the university 'management' are overpaid and a careful study needs to be carried independently into their inflated and self awarded salaries and 'expenses'. The above statement about excessive management salaries etc equally applies to the beleaguered NHS - the government needs to take a long and careful look at this area in particular and start cutting out some of the top layers of so called management - many of whom would not be able to justify their position if it were in a commercial environment!!ViewDate:

Do you think university tuition fees should be scrapped? In principle tuition fees should be scrapped but with certain conditions:- Overseas students should still be liable for fees. Careful thought should be paid to some of the more outlandish degrees available currently and many should be abolished or be fee paying. Any student enrolling and then dropping out should be charged a fee for time wasting (unless there are genuine reasons). On a related issue - why is there no real investigation ongoing into the self awarded and obscene remuneration packages paid to some senior university staff? By controlling these it would ease the burden elsewhere.ViewDate:

How do you feel about giving money as a wedding gift?I live in Spain where it is traditional for all guests at a wedding to give money instead of presents. At some point during the wedding feast the Bride and Groom will circulate around the room and each couple/family will pass them a plain envelope containing cash. Although there is an accepted amount it is really up to the individuals and because it is given anonymously there is no stigma attached if someone is unable to contribute fully. A sensible idea all round?ViewDate:

When do you celebrate Twelfth Night?I live in Spain so it's a given twelfth night is the 6th - the Three Kings visit on the night of the 5th and in most villages/towns distribute a gift to all children up to the age of 10 age, but the 6th is 'Three Kings Day' when Spanish children receive presents from the family and is therefore regarded as twefth night . As we have both Spanish and English family we have to make an agreement on which day we give presents, otherwise the children would expect them on Christmas Da and Three Kings!!!ViewDate:

Should tackles and scrums be prohibited from school rugby fields?I played Rugby, Football & Cricket at School - we also played matches against other schools and these were always hotly contested with oneor two broken bones - this is part of the game!! and once again the do gooders (in the form of 'experts') want to ban all contact sports - I also played squash and as I'm sure many will agree a squash ball can really hurt! - So, what next? ban all sports in schools? Then there will be nobody trained to play for their country in any sport. Most sports teachers are responsible and caring to supervise children of all ages in sport - it is also essential in learning about team spirit, discipline (that feared word again!) and giving a senseof achievement! Ban sport?- no, ban the idiots trying to introduce the ban!!!ViewDate:

Are gender neutral passports a step towards true equality, or a step too far?A small minority of 'politically correct do-gooders' are making a mockery of the vast majority of sensible people - what next - a call for no passport at all because it's an invasion of 'human rights'?ViewDate:

Do you drink a cup of coffee every day?I drink at least one cup of coffee every day - although I start the day with tea I really look forward to my mid morning coffee, usually taken with a group of friends. I think the research just confirms that coffee is good for you but, like everything else, only in moderation - perhaps like alcohol too much could be detrimental? Is it also a myth that black coffee late at night will keep you awake?
