Pen palsHi Georgette So you want a penpal? Not sure if I will be ok for you as I am a rather boring person - but I will write a snippet and see what you think? I joined this site several years ago after someone recommended it for organised holidays for older people. As it happened the first day I logged on there was a holiday just perfect for myself and my husband. It was a coach tour around Sicily. This may sound horrible but I don't enjoy holidays with him as we have such different interests but I thought if it's organised, we may not argue about the what to do every day. So I booked it and off we went and it actually worked out ok. Sadly with Covid and other reasons I haven't really had a holiday since. Unless you count the odd times my daughter has invited me along with her for the odd weekends to help look after the children. Which I love doing. I have visited the Silversurfers site the odd time since but never really found what I was looking for. To be honest, not sure what I was looking for! Today, I came on looking for a holiday for later in the year. Another totally organised one but sadly didn't find one. However, Penpal popped up and I thought mmmm.. give it a go. I think what caught my eye was the similarity of our hobbies (but not the old cars). My granddaughter asked for some dolly clothes and I got this odd idea of crocheting some. Well, I haven't done any since I was 14 when we all did poncho's! So my attempts were not great but she is happy and I really enjoyed doing outfits for all three of her babies. I also love dogs, and have a 13 year old working cocker who is adorable but deaf as a post and I also regularly dog sit my son's rescue Doberman. Sadly I lost mine two years ago at the sad age of 5. Again a rescue, which obviously had not been bred by decent people (this is me being very polite!). Well, I think that is enough. How did I do? RuthViewDate:

FriendshipGood morning Fran and Sandra Please may I join your little chats? I am a fed up old woman, who, this morning decided to look on line for a pen pal. I live in Wiltshire, on Salisbury Plains, I have an old, deaf working cocker called Cass, who has been with me 13 years. I sadly lost my other dog (pictured) last year but I have been looking after my sons dog recently as the rescue dog he recently got is proving to be rather challenging!! My son lives in Yorkshire and my daughter in Essex and the remainder of family also live in Yorkshire, so until the pandemic I was either visiting or had visitors. I used to think I was a good gardener until I moved here, and now know I'm hopeless. Obviously my last house had really good growing conditions so had nothing to do with me! I will keep trying though.. I hope I have done this right as not tried this before. Hope you have a good weekendViewDate:

Speakers Corner CommentsHi Ariadne Thanks for answering but I posted some time ago and in the meantime we have been on the organised tour of Sicily. It was just what I needed and we had the best time ever. Everything just fell in to place: weather was good, there were two other English couples on the tour who we really got on with (all the other people were Italian and very pleasant but my Italian is poor and they could not speak English) and our guide was outstanding. It was perfect! It was the first time we had gone on a organised holiday as we have always done as you say - book flights and do our own thing. That was why I was asking if anyone had been - needed a bit of feed back/reassurance. Last year my life was very challenging and I actually wanted to get away from everything/one and not have to think about anything or make any decisions whatsoever. I desperately needed a distraction but the thought of just sitting on a beach or around a pool was not an option. I so needed not think of anything. As it happens the touring and places we visited were very interesting and we did things we would never have done on our own. The guide was so knowledgeable about everything especially the politics, the buildings and the restoration processes. If I was to moan about anything it would be one of the hotels we stayed at was not one I would have chosen but for two nights it was not a problem It was just the right thing at the right time. I went to Russia with my daughter for a short holiday recently which was totally not organised and we had an amazing time, so I do agree with you, but sometimes we have to do the unexpected.ViewDate:

Speakers Corner CommentsI am new to silversurfers (not a youngster just limited in my knowledge) and was looking to find reviews of their holidays. I just can not find anything! Am I losing it? I really fancy going on the guided tour of Sicily in Summer but would like some idea of what to expect from previous travellers. I wonder if all the arrangements make it stressful; if there is time to chill out and walk around places. As you can gather I am rather laid back.... Anyone any comments on the holiday please.
