Just joined so I'm introducing myself.Hi celtwitch, Yes, it is indeed sad that our children often ignore us later in life - just when we really need them. Mine too. And I am also a dog lover. Eccentric? Hmm . . . maybe. We have nine dogs. So I guess you could label me eccentric. lol It's great that you have the energy and desire to walk and hike. That's great. I live in Brooklin (coastal) Maine with my husband and our meagerie of dogs. What kind of dogs do you have? We just acquired a new dog - a 3-yr old English Mastiff yesterday. She is lovely. Nice to hear from you. RxkViewDate:

Calling all Dog lovers ... join in with our Dog Chat!Hi I'm new to this site, which appears to be a UK site. I live in Coastal Maine, USA. I'm 71 and have been retired for about 20 years. We have eight dogs: two retired racing Greyhounds, a very old Yorkie, an elderly Schnauzer mix and four Chihuahuas. All except the Yorkie are rescue dogs. We have had English Mastiffs for many years, but our last two died a couple of years ago. When I was younger, I did a great deal of racing Greyhound rescue and placement when the movement was new in the U.S. and I might add that having seen what goes on behind the scenes, I am adamantly opposed to Greyhound racing. The loving, gentle dogs make wonderful pets and may be the easiest dogs ever to live with. Oh, we also have three cats. Love all animals.ViewDate:

Just joined so I'm introducing myself.Hi. Just joined today. I am 71 and have been retired for 20 years and am bored out of my mind. I am a former journalist and do some occasional freelance writing, but even that is boring me these days. I live in coastal Maine in a lovely, charming fishing village, but it's quite rural with not many social offerings. I like dogs and all animals and have eight dogs and three cats. I play the piano very occasionally and enjoy reading about reincarnation and karma. Would love to hear from people who can help me find my retirement "niche" because basically, I'm not sure why even bother getting up every morning with nothing to do every day.ViewDate:

Just joined so I'm introducing myself.Hi there celtwitch. I'm new too. Just signed up today and have little idea about how to proceed. I can relate to your loneliness and estrangement. I am 71. Although I am fortunate to have a husband, I have a son who lives far away and doesn't stay in touch very much. I retired early (at age 51) and my husband and I relocated to coastal Maine. At first it was great, but then it became boring. Very boring. I still find retirement a very boring and lonely situation and do not seem to be able to find anything to fill my time. I am always amazed and perplexed when I hear people say how wonderful retirement is. I guess I just never cultivated any hobbies. I'd be interested in chatting with people who find themselves in a similar situation or those who can offer some suggestions. -
