Margaret2009's bio
I have recently retired from community nursing. Enjoy travelling the world. Not enjoying it as a solo traveller. Walking the beautiful countryside with my dog is embracing and rewarding. Would love to share quality time and experiences with a partner with similar interest. -

Abusive adult childrenRegarding adult children and the lack of respect for their parents. I too have experienced hurtful and painful behaviour from one of my children. My Daughter lives in the States with her husband. The last time I went to visit them, almost everything comment I made (I can see why your heating bills are so high, the windows are single glazed) was preconceived as a criticism. When in actual fact I was making a statement of fact. Her husband was equally as bad in telling me "you need to think before you speak." Sadly I now have no contact with them anymore, as one cannot live questioning every word before spoken. It has taken me several years to accept that we no longer get on but what will be will be.ViewDate:

Will you still buy mohair, cashmere, silk and feather products?I see your point Jean. I will leave the conversation now as answering questions about the treatment and killing of animals in the UK and other countries has come a wider discussion with members whom I have had "private chats" with. As often the cast the topic has drawn in similarities somewhat removed from the current issue.ViewDate:

Will you still buy mohair, cashmere, silk and feather products?Hi Jean, if you look into religion and the way animals are killed to feed those who partake in such religious beliefs. For example cutting as the throats of goats and leaving them to bleed to death. Such cruel treatment to livestock, I could give more details about other forms of animal slaughter but I do not wish to upset you or other readers. Sadly this does actually happens in the UK. I was responding to questions raised by another member, that is why I came to elaborate on global behaviours towards animals. I apologise if I caused confusion.ViewDate:

Will you still buy mohair, cashmere, silk and feather products? We are in a catch 22 situation with Political Correctness. When we object to such awful treatment to animals in the name of faith or religion we are told this is a historical course. We are to allow these beliefs to continue and not raise our objections otherwise we are seen as racist! Yes we are the silent objectors, because we no longer have the option of "free" speech. If we went to any other country in the world and built our own house of prayer and demanded our animals were killed in a certain way, I am certain we would soon be deported. Yet we have allowed this to happen in the UK and any objections we have are simply not taken into account to prevent upsetting those settling in the UK. So it is all very complex and frustrating in a country so small and so over crowned.ViewDate:

Will you still buy mohair, cashmere, silk and feather products?I am very concerned about the ill treatment to animals across the world. We generally seem to have a kinder approach to farming animals in the UK. Therefore, should I require any animal based products in the future, I will do my upmost to ensure they are British or research the history of their origin before purchase. I refuse to support those mistreating animals even if they are small silk worms. We do have a choice where and how we spend our money. Let us all work harder at supporting the "Fair trade."ViewDate:

Do you think Heinz should change the name of their Salad Cream? It sounds like PC madness to me. If is not broken "don't fix it!"ViewDate:

Were you in the dark about menopause? The Menopause is a natural stage in female aging. It is a normal part of life, no different from the menstrual cycle but the symptoms are different. There is so much women can do to help themselves without relying on HRT from their GP. Look at your diet, exercise, if you smoke stop, try to avoid alcohol as this often makes hot flushes worse as the Liver works hard to break the substance down. Get out more and embrace the simple pleasures in life. Stop worrying about the things you cannot change, look at ways round the problem. At 63 I still have hot flushes and night sweats, the dry hair and skin is improving as I spend more time in treating them. I delight in waking pain-free most days, caring for my home, walking the dog in the countryside and meeting friends and family for tea and a chat. Try looking at what you can do rather than "can no longer do." The future really is bright.ViewDate:

Mothering Sunday - am I being unreasonable?Hello Rubymoomin, I fully understand how upset you must feel having given so much and received so little in return from your children. I am a widow of 14 years and both my son and daughter hold me in contempt. I too cannot do right for doing wrong as far as my daughter is concerned. My son does not wish to meet any males in my life, as far as he is concerned I should live without any male company, otherwise I am betraying the memory of my husband. Mothering Sunday was another cardless day for me too, as will be my Birthday and Christmas. It is upsetting and a little depressing that we have tried so hard to always do right by our children and they have little or no respect for us as their parents. Reading your heartbreaking story has helped me realise that I am not the only parent treated with such disregard and perhaps dislike. May I suggest you and your husband focus on one another and SKI (spend the kids inheritance). Live each day as if it is your last and travel the world in style!! Wishing you both a lovely future.ViewDate:

TRAVELING SOLO AND LOOKING FOR A COMPANION?Hi Organist, I wonder where in the world you are? I am cruising from South Africa back to England (my home country) in April on the Queen Elizabeth. I am female but fully understand the problem you have been experiencing with feeling like a spare-part. And yes, any sort of holiday with the exception of skiing can be complex. I wish you luck in finding that partner to cruise with. MargaretViewDate:

HelloGood afternoon from the UK, I have empathy of how you feel especially at this time of year and this time in the week. It is hard at times to feel positive but thank goodness there are websites such as this one to chat to like minded people. Never been divorced myself but from the experience others have gone through it seems very complex and a truly miserable time. On the plus side, I am here to chat to about to if you wish. Hope the weather is better than freezing in Ohio. Margaret -
