Is the UK Government doing enough to lessen the spread of Covid-19?I am 64, have heart failure @ so am now classed as ‘elderly, with a pre-existing health condition’ and at significant risk from the virus. I really resent the fact that I no longer appear to have a voice though - the Government and it’s advisors tell me what I should be doing, what is best for me, who I should have contact with etc. While I respect their motives may perhaps be good, I am perfectly capable of deciding what risks I want to take. I am particularly alarmed at the prospect of ‘cocooning’, introduced this week. The notion of the state rounding up the elderly and sick and herding them together is one I find appalling. One infected staff member would quickly wipe out the entire group. This would certainly reduce the strain we place on the NHS and Social Care System - is this the motive perhaps? My only request for this government is to allow me to make my own decisions, take whatever risks I wish and take the consequences. I have no intention of ending my days attached to machines and surrounded by Hazmat suits, so will not add any pressure to the NHS. All I want is to live comfortably at home, with my family close by (whether or not they might infect me), free from Government interference. I do believe schools should be closed now. No-one seems to be giving any consideration to the fact that there are large numbers of children who have compromised immune systems, asthma, cancer, heart conditions etc. etc. Children DO catch this virus and some, albeit relatively small numbers, have been seriously ill and have died. Also, passing legislation for them to be taught in larger classes of limitless numbers is a huge health and safety issue (that is why all classrooms have a maximum class size allocated to them), and, let’s face it, in such circumstances .they are not likely to learn much !ViewDate:

Should a statue of Margaret Thatcher be erected in her home town? The very thought of spending £300,000 on a statue of anyone in the current climate of poverty, a struggling NHS etc. is obscene.
