Is it realistic to expect over 70s to remain in their homes for 4 months?Yes and before you realise you're infected you will have inadvertently passed it on through coughs and sneezes...the very things we have been warned about!ViewDate:

Is it realistic to expect over 70s to remain in their homes for 4 months?Perhaps but older people's immune systems are less robust regardless of general health. This means we are more likely to contract the virus and less able to fight it.ViewDate:

Is it realistic to expect over 70s to remain in their homes for 4 months? You are right but no one will listen. Some are suggesting that it's martial law practically. People seem to prefer scaremongering than actually looking at the facts. What bit of NOT COMPULSORY don't they get? So frustrating!ViewDate:

Is it realistic to expect over 70s to remain in their homes for 4 months? It's not compulsory. It was clearly stated this morning by the Health Secretary that it was advice....for now. Your approach seems sensible. I don't know who started the rumour that this was legally enforceable but they have caused a lot of upset.ViewDate:

Is it realistic to expect over 70s to remain in their homes for 4 months? It's not compulsory...yet...but if everyone shares your opinion it soon will be. You are deliberately choosing to ignore the advice of the most eminent medical professionals in the world. If you should contract the virus it will be your own choice and that is just fine. (I hope you don't). Just remember that the people you care for are vulnerable and the virus may prove fatal. Anyone can pass it on without symptoms. But you clearly don't care as we can all get stuffed. So public spirited!ViewDate:

Is it realistic to expect over 70s to remain in their homes for 4 months? On the contrary,it does float in the air propelled by coughs, sneezing and spitting. hence all the advice about tissues etc. It does also linger for a time on surfaces. Self isolation is not just about the person doing it, it also protects others. Anyone could have the virus, without symptoms and inadvertently pass it on. You are correct that masks are mostly useless as they are not sealed. You can also be infected through your eyes. The only reason they target the elderly is because of weakened immune systems...a consequence of age which is beyond our control. At present we are not being forced to stay in but should take precautions if going out. If it continues to spread the pubs will be forced to close anyway.ViewDate:

Is it realistic to expect over 70s to remain in their homes for 4 months? It's not compulsory! It's not a rule', It's a suggestion which you are free to ignore. Please read before posting. No one is 'imposing' it. To suggest this is frightening people needlessly.ViewDate:

Is it realistic to expect over 70s to remain in their homes for 4 months? As the Americans say 'Stupid is forever'! Glad you, at least, are being sensible. I don't care if others are foolhardy enough to risk their lives but they have no right to risk the lives of others. Do masses of people have to die before they get the point...I fear so!ViewDate:

Is it realistic to expect over 70s to remain in their homes for 4 months?I'm glad you are well and hope you continue to be so! No matter how fit, the older we get the immune system is not so robust. It's like wrinkles...can't be stopped! You can pass the virus on before symptoms appear. However this is only a suggestion from the government so if you go out just take care.ViewDate:

Is it realistic to expect over 70s to remain in their homes for 4 months? You are correct. However I don't think it's deliberate. In spite of everything it is not being taken seriously. The elderly looking after children has been warned against over and over. That someone is prepared to take that risk is fine, but to then go out and spread it is just plain wrong. It's the 'I feel fine and I don't care about anyone else' factor. Problem is it will backfire and prolong this crisis for a longer time.ViewDate:

Is it realistic to expect over 70s to remain in their homes for 4 months?Various places deliver already and the government have asked them to prioritise. Many are self isolating so I can't see how they would be able to recruit the many people needed to deliver as the workforce will likely be decimated. Since you are already on line try somewhere like Tesco or Sainsburys. I'm no computer whizz but have found it quite easy and, if you're concerned, they can leave it at the door rather than carrying to the kitchen. If you can, it might ease some anxiety. Hope you both stay well.ViewDate:

Is it realistic to expect over 70s to remain in their homes for 4 months? This is a government request. It's not compulsory so you can ignore you wish. It is designed to protect everyone. No matter how healthy, the immune system in older age is less robust and we are more likely to have other medical issues. Children can pass on the virus with no ill effects for them but possibly serious for others. Practically, it's just not possible for everyone to do this. We can't all afford to stock up for long periods of time and not everyone has family or friends who can help. Some may have issues with being alone. My feeling is...if you can stay in do. If you can't take reasonable precautions. Hope you all stay well!ViewDate:

Clever uses for ZofloraIn our house 'Flower Shop' was the scent of choice! More modern scents now like my current one 'Mandarin and Lime'. As a child I remember it being stocked in the chemist and imagined it was expensive. If you haven't used it before remember that a little goes a long way!
