Should there be a specified age to retake your practical driving test?Although age is a consideration, there are some people who only travel one or two thousand miles a year and who have never experienced driving on a motorway. There are others that drive many tens of thousands of miles a year and have experienced most types of road and traffic conditions - regardless of age. Perhaps it would be a good idea for all licensed drivers to have to retake the practical test, say, every 10 years? And, even perhaps the theory test too - I'm sure there are many drivers that have not kept up to date with the Highway Code. All in all, regardless of a driver's age, be they younger or older, a test every decade would seem a good idea.ViewDate:

Should there be a specified age to retake your practical driving test?Like most things, it depends on the individual. It may be wise for everyone to take a retest say every 5/10 years throughout their driving life - it seems strange that once a person passes the test, that is it for the rest of their lives. The duke himself - like many of his generation - was not required to take a test before driving - and he, like his contemporaries, has never taken a test - I’m 67 and drive over 20,000 miles a year; I would not be against having to take a regular test - as long as it applied to all age groups.
