Lets get together and feel alright! My experience is that as much as you think you have prepared for retirement there are certain elements that creep up on you unexpectedly. Getting together in 'real life' with others for coffee or a chat is a good idea. It happens with people from another forum I'm on, simply by finding people in the same area and agreeing to meet somewhere. I've met some lovely people that way!ViewDate:

New friendsHi Ellie, I can sympathise with the way you feel having just moved across the country to be closer to family, but really missing all the good friends I've left behind! Trying to get out and join new things but not always easy. More than happy to chat if you'd like to!ViewDate:

Silversurfers Book Club Spring 2016Finished it a couple of days ago and really enjoyed it. I loved Edwina's quirky, chaotic lifestyle and was easily drawn in by the sadness of the house, with the wonderful touches of humour. I felt a bit bereft when the story changed focus the the younger members of the family and constantly wondered what was happening to Edwina, but even so the story had completely captivated me I thought the portrayal of the 60 and 70s was spot on and thought the final resolution was appropriate. Great book - will look out for more by Jenny Éclair on the shelves!ViewDate:

Historical FictionHello kyook. Since retiring I've managed to get back into the habit of reading, although the stress of dealing with frequent moves over the past few years didn't do much for my concentration. I love books with a strong sense of place, particularly those I've visited! I've read a few books by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, set in Barcelona and I've read all of the Victoria Hislop novels that you mentioned and thoroughly enjoyed them. Last summer I read her latest one, 'The Sunrise', set in Cyprus during the Turkish invasion of the 1960s. I have to say I was a bit disappointed and didn't find it nearly as gripping as the earlier ones though. I've also recently finished the 'biography' of Jerusalem by Simon Sebag Montefiore.... a bit of a hefty tome but very readable and absolutely fascinating!ViewDate:

Venturing in at last!Hello! I've thought about volunteering and have looked at the local index, but that's as far as I got! Even before I moved I found it was quite a shift as many of my friends were still in work during the day, and term time, and also have husbands or partners whereas I am on my own. Knowing I was planning to move I was probably a bit reluctant to get involved in too many things as it would only mean leaving behind another set of contacts and starting all over again, although I did go out each week with a walking group. Since moving I've joined the local U3A group (been along to the Photography group this morning) and also Friends of the local libraries (and found myself Secretary after 2nd meeting!). Hope your move goes well!ViewDate:
