Win a H-HANDY 700 Express from HooverI got my heavy Dyson out today, efficient but heavy, and a lighter model would be so useful, I'm 85 with arthritis and have recently developed carpel tunnel syndrome in both hands. Cleaning gets harder but at least I have time to do it in short installments.ViewDate:

On holiday with swimmer’s earTake ear pain seriously. Mine started the day I got back from holiday in Spain last August. Had swum in sea, and dived to bottom of pool playing with great=grandson. Five different antibiotics from GP did nothing, and as I was booked for a four-hour flight to Turkey with friends in September to a villa with pool, I consulted a specialist privately. The holiday was off; they went without me...., a suitable antibiotic was found, One more ineffective antibiotic, then sent to hospital for intra-venous injection of a more powerful one. Immediately passed out! By this time severe pain had spread all around the back of my ear and into the jaw-bone: necrotising otitis. This infects the skullbone and can prove fatal if the infection gets into the brain. (My specialist only told me this later, when he discharged me.) I was in hospital nine days, and my hearing is still affected. I am very careful now not to let water into my ears, and was prescribed ear-plugs. I'm trying Turkey again soon, and will be a lot more careful.ViewDate:

Should terminally ill patients have the right to die?It is cruel and bullying to condemn people in pain to continue enduring it for a principle. Life can be unendurable for some, not necessarily terminally ill, or with a short life-span prognosis. People should have a choice, without having to travel abroad, and many do not have the family or finances to make this possible. It is not forcing one's choice onto others who may prefer palliative care, or rely on their faith, and the law would surely protect vulnerable people from feeling obliged to save their families, or a hospice or the NHS the trouble and cost of caring for them. You only have to look at the desperate actions taken by Debbie Purdy to end her life within the law. It was distressing for her, her husband, and all those who cared for her. I don't know if I would have her courage and determination if i were in her position.ViewDate:
