Mo Moor's bio
I currently live in Suffolk and very much enjoy doing so. I enjoy walking, gardening, reading my Kindle, chatting to friends, my family and my home. I love my dog, a chocolate labrador, and pub lunches with my husband and/or friends and family. I like music and was a follower of soul/Motown....in my youth, but I can appreciate other categories of music. -

Should households pay a universal flat-rate fee regardless of whether they own a TV?Whilst I appreciate the many comments against paying a licence fee, I think that generally it is good value-for-money. We have Sky plus, and it costs an enormous amount, and we have the facility to buy packages and films online at further cost! The BBC, whilst they do not get it right the whole time, many of their programmes are good and entertaining. Also, included in the fee is the radio licence too. On the whole, the BBC produces far more entertaining programmes than those extremely wealthy tv providers, without endless adverts to break up the programme. In the great scheme of things, it is worthwhile. However, not at all sure as to levying one charge on all households, unless it is a nominal sum.ViewDate:

Would you like to turn back time?I believe that the main reason for turning back time is the very fact of age and what it means for us all in the ageing process. I would turn back time but take with me the experiences and maturity which I have acquired. As a result, I want to continue life healthily and happily as I am today. If I turned back the clock, I would also be sharing life with loved ones who are no longer here to share my life. The happiness of discussing and loving family who made my life so very good when I was younger....... Rather sentimental, I suppose, but such happy foundations in earlier life, makes you the person you are today. However, as we all know, we cannot turn back time and tides, and therefore whatever age, be thankful and enjoy current family, friends and situations whenever we are able to do so. Tomorrow is the first day of the remainder of your life, so enjoy!ViewDate:

Do people worry too much about being politically correct? In a word "yes"! We have become a nation of sensitive people, as though some of the realities of life should not be discussed, for fear of offending a small minority. Whilst I condone rudeness and blatant offensive remarks or behaviour, we should not be afraid of expressing a factual view. Life is not easy, nor ideal. We all therefore need to toughen up a bit more and face realities of life, which are sometimes harsh. Education rather than legislation and nannying us all!ViewDate:

Are you more of a dog person or a cat person?Love my dog to bits. He's a 5-year old chocolate lab, and is as adorable now as he was as a puppy. He is a friend, protector, joker and loves us as much as we love him. I have never owned a cat, as we have always kept a dog, and therefore have no experience of them only friends or family owned cats. Our dog keeps us ever so active and he is good for our health and souls. A true companion to us, wheras cats are far more independent......I'm truly a dog person. Love them!ViewDate:

What are your views on hospital car park charging?I'm happy to pay a reasonable charge, provided the profit was being made by the hospital. However, I understand that's not the case, and Hospitals engage contractors to monitor and maintain the car parks. Apparently the hospitals are not set up to do this work, so some private company is called in. Thus, no doubt, the high charges.......commercial enterprises earning on the sick and their families!ViewDate:

Should smoking be banned in parks and other public spaces?I'd be happy to support this proposal, but I have never smoked. However, my biggest hate is SPITTING, which I truly find abhorrent. "Off with their heads", and then no more spitting!....ViewDate:

Are you satisfied with your home broadband speed? We live in rural Suffolk, and the Broadband speed is not good. We often lose wireless connection, and sending photographs can be almost painful as it is so slow. We requested a speedier version but BT advised Suffolk has not got the technology to provide us with the same. Some parts of Suffolk have no Dab connectivity, so some new radios are a no-no. This is the 21st century. It must be so frustrating for rural businesses. We understand we are being updated here, but how long? .........ViewDate:

Welcome to the Silversurfers ForumI'm a little disappointed that "the community" are not picking up conversation and chatting more directly to each other. A member may comment on a topic, or just chat, but does not receive replies regularly, if at all! Is there a way to improve this situation. I thought being mature members, conversation and chat would be easier to trigger. Any other views about this situation? .......ViewDate:

MEMORIESSome more: 1. Spangles 2. Free plastic flowers with petrol or wash powder? 3. Green Shield stamps. loved it when mum had books of them. 4. Compendium of Games (which I usually chose with the remaining Green Shield stamps) 5. Paraffin heaters (which smelt awful and would probably be banned by H&S now!) 6. For the girls, "Jackie" Magazine. 7. Lovely, fancy chocolate boxes, with far more chocs in them. 8. Home-made carts; usually made out of someone's old pram. 9. The old "coppers" which heated large quantities of water in the home. 10. Clothes wringers, no washing machines around much then.... 11. Etch-a-sketch; never could do much with them, just nonsense lines! 12. Izal toilet paper: hard as iron, tho. ouch! 13. Idris orange juice. 14. another for the girls "June and Schoolfriend" magazine. I have enjoyed this little recollection. Well done for starting this off, gibbo! There are many more, but I must sign off for now...ViewDate:

Reducing salt intake in your dietYou appear to be a great cook; plenty flavoursome food. There are some good recipes online, and you could use your i-pad to access. Nice ideas instead of salt! Lucky grand-daughter, I'd say! Might use some of your tips. Thanks.ViewDate:

Kindle vs BookI used to be anti-Kindle until my husband bought me one as a Christmas pressie. Therefore, I do use both, but predominantly my kindle. I love the look and feel of a book, but I do find the kindle very user friendly, and not so cumbersome! The e-books are generally much cheaper than the actual book or paperback, but again, there are some who still prefer a proper book, which I can appreciate. I have an account with Amazon, and my e-purchases are downloaded immediately from them and I have had no problem whatsoever with this process. However, if I want a limited edition of a certain book, then I would not hesitate to purchase it. I would hate owning books to fade and die.....so a combination of the two suits me fine. Lastly, I have quite a lot of books, and storage is becoming a bit of an issue, so the kindle is an answer to that particular problem. I would recommend the two means of literature, and as long as people are reading and enjoying the read.......that's the most important matter, I would think. Happy reading!ViewDate:

Would you 'blow' your pension on travel?I say "go for it, pensioners"! If you have saved during your younger days for a pension, then as the latter chapters of your life approach, spend as you wish. Those responsible people with pension "pots" have most certainly worked hard all their lives bringing up families and maintaining jobs, and finding a budget for a pension. So, enjoy your remaining days, and you can only do that by choosing how you wish to spend your savings or otherwise. My husband and myself have our plans for our pending retirement days, and will do things which we could either not afford, or had no time to carry out in our earlier lives.......So, 60 years is the new 40 years?! but with additional funds. Cheers! Go for it...ViewDate:

Is modern technology really anti-social? Does it get in the way of real, old-fashioned conversation? What do you think and are your experiences.I agree, Robbinn, you have to find a balance. I too could not now be without my ipad, but I very mush like a good ol' conversation too with family and friends. Overall, I suppose we get more from the technology than that which we may lose. I just hate the fact that for a lot of people it is an extension of their being, like losing a leg or arm if they misplace the item........ more so with the younger folk. We have got to "go with it" in this fast moving and ever changing world....Enjoy your ipad!ViewDate:
