Have people forgotten the true meaning of Christmas?Absolutely, of course they have. Obscene amounts of money spent of presents, especially for kids. It's a commercial free for all from around October. It's awful and I don't like it one bit. Even the telly this year is repeats (again!)ViewDate:

Should it be illegal to smack your child?A smack on the legs done in the moment, and not premeditated is not the end of the world. I think psychological bullying is FAR most damaging. My parents smacked me across the face. But what sticks most in my mind is the time that my dad ignored me for three, yes THREE months. That damaged me more than anything, and still impacts on me now in later life. That sort of horror never leaves you because it's premeditated.ViewDate:

Should cannabis be legalised for medicinal reasons?I too am torn by this issue. I know people where the medicinal use of cannabis in a long and excruciating illness has given profound relief. i also know of folk who have smoked it recreationally for years, and it has rendered them almost incapable of leading productive lives. The just eat a lot and give up on everything. The motivation is taken away from them. It's very sad to see. So that's why I am torn on this subject.ViewDate:

Is it ever acceptable for a man to be unfaithful to his wife? The issue here is Trust. Once that's gone, it is almost impossible to regain it. Living in a relationship where the trust is gone is a horrible experience.ViewDate:

Who would make a better President - Donald or Hillary? It's a fascinating situation in the USA, no question about that. But I think the deeper issue is the situation that has allowed a Donald Trump to garner so many votes! Clearly there are many disenfranchised folk in the USA who feel marginalised or overlooked due to Political correctness. They feel threatened and frightened about the future. Trump is hardline for America's security. Your average American isn't particularly interested in a polititian's lucidity or erudition!! In fact that would be vaguely threatening to them. Trump appeals to the common man, even though he is a man rich largely through his own family's inheritance. They don't care even about that. They want an America which is secure and safe, without their safety being hostage to PC.ViewDate:

Is a weight-loss pill the answer to the obesity crisis? The trouble with a pill is that it isn't for ever. It will be just for a course of x amount of weeks. So when you stop taking the pill, the weight will pile on again. The only long term realistic solution for morbidly obese people is bariatric surgery. That lasts for a lifetime if you obey the rules after the op. Long term solutions for ordinary weight loss is only changing your lifestyle, but that is the most difficult thing to do long term. It's a struggle so many people have.ViewDate:

Are you concerned about your weight?I walk 4 miles a day, and am about a stone overweight. I am working to lose that (somewhat half-heartedly), but I do think as we get older, a little bit of extra weight is a cushion against any nasty health issues that might occur, and make us lose a lot of weight suddenly. I think fitness and obviously NOT obesity is the order of the day. A bit of overweight is OK.ViewDate:

Should Inheritance Tax be abolished? In my mind Inheritance Tax has always been an abomination. It's very unfair.ViewDate:

What are your secrets for a long and happy marriage? Not taking each other for granted I think is the recipe for a happy marriage. Plus obviously supporting each other through tough times. I mean at our stage of life, IMHO that is the all-important factor.ViewDate:

Barometer Survey shows the over 50s have strong views about BrexitI want out, big time. It's ridiculous the way Britain has become. It's a joke. And furthermore, I am sick of all the scaremongering going on by the 'no's' Thank you Silversurfers for conducting this poll. It's results are very interesting, but not at all surprising!ViewDate:
