Brexit - what happens next?Let’s deal in facts - we did not decimalise to join the Common Market - the value of the £ was not cut by half - we voted by an overwhelming majority to stay in the EC in 1975 and it was clear at the time and has always been that the direction of travel politically was “ever closer union”. The UK has been more reserved about this than some members and currently has a number of special arrangements attached to its membership - we get a significant rebate on our membership fees; we are not part of the Schengen open borders arrangement and control our own borders; we are not part of the Euro and retain our own currency. As a member, we also have a veto on the vast majority of EU laws which must pass through the European Parliament where we have 73 MEPs elected by proportional representation. That’s why the best deal for us is to disregard the lies, misrepresentation and ignorance of the Leaver millionaires (such as Rees-Mogg) and stay a member of the EU.
