I don't want a Smart phoneYeah, Andrew, that is a common by-line in thought and conversation to folks over 65. I'm 70 and it is assumed that I can not possibly have any clue or indeed, capacity to either own or navigate the rather ubiquitous vagaries of any kind of cell phone --- much less smartphone. There are times I don't even bring my phone with me. it's either left at home on purpose, or I've forgotten it completely. I'm not going to say that not having a smartphone isn't at times a handicap in todays internet-dependent society. But, it isn't by any means a critical necessity. Conducting business the way we used to before technology/AI became our constant bedfellows, is still allowed. You can carry cash, send mail through the Post office, and still use your trusty land-line anytime you bloody well please. Stand your ground, my friend.ViewDate:

Sewerage in our back garden for 8 yearsWell, KnottyJune, this is by its very nature, a civil action. I'm not a lawyer by any means, but I assume you have contacted your neighbour and have gone over this sticky issue with no resolution. The next step would have to be some preliminary legal counsel. Yes, I'm stating the obvious. There are many tricky and time-consuming lanes you may have to travel. With a sick husband as well, the real question is are you up for perhaps a tough fight with someone who lives next door to you? Have they offered nothing in the way of compromise to you?ViewDate:

Do you support Boris's decision to suspend Parliament?Look, and this may be naive of me, but when you remove the opportunity for the population to participate in, or at the very least, believe they are participating in the government they helped to elect, it is a foolish and dangerous proposition. The precedent isn't digestible and rarely emerges as a viable option to the democratic process.ViewDate:

How do other pensioners feel about retirement?Oh, I do.... Im also a part of a seniors group here and we do quite a lot -- we meet once a month. I'm also a writer -- have had some limited exposure. I'm a musician as well, so I do stay busy.ViewDate:

How do other pensioners feel about retirement?Oh listen, I certainly will let everyone know what happens. I only have one suggestion. Start right away planning for retirement. That way you can avoid the uncertainty a lot of us who didnt plan are having. KeithViewDate:

Should women join the SAS?Youre 100% correct Chinagirl. It takes someone special to join SpecOps. SEALS, Rangers, SAS, Force Recon, Army Special Forces, and so on. Most men dont make the grade. Would you sanction a fight between a woman who weighs as much as Connor McGregor in the MMA? Has any woman been a part of a male soccer/football team anywhere in the world? Would you feel safe with a female-only police force? Female only military? These are questions that have to be honestly answered, yes? It's not a political consideration.ViewDate:

Should women join the SAS?It's a huge mistake. Listen.. why do men who strike women get arrested and sent to jail more than men striking men? We are appalled at the aspect of men doing anything violent to women. Now we say that women can stand against any man in physical combat if she joins the Marines or SAS. Does that make any sense at all? If it isn't right for men to attack or do any violence to a woman, how then does it become okay for them to join a service where they will be attacked and killed by other men? Is she a match for men? If so, why aren't they on male football teams--- why don't we set women to fight men in MMA/boxing matches? . She has to be able to hold her own not just in training, but on the field of combat -- can she carry the same gear as her male counterparts? Can she pass the same rigorous training regimens required in special forces, or will they be forced to lower the qualifying bar to allow her entry? I think it's a grave mistake to do this.ViewDate:

How do other pensioners feel about retirement?I just retired and its not what I thought it would be. It's only been a year, but I'm wading curiously through the tides and eddies to find my place. Not sure yet. There are lots of things I want to do, so I guess all that remains is for me to get them done... With a wife, four grown kids and two grand kids, it's not simply a question of picking up and going. Next week, I plan to get in my vehicle and point it west and go as far as my food and gas money will allow. Stop the car and spend several days doing nothing but reading, eating and relaxing. Think I'll start there.ViewDate:

Finding the right senior chat room for youYeah that happens to me Stella. Im up all times of the night since retiring over a year ago. I'm 64, soon to be 65 and, well, sometimes I just want to get in my car and drive until I dont see anymore power lines, cell phone towers, or outdoor signs. I want to stop and get out and stay there for about a month. Maybe I will one day soon. Think Im just trying to reorient myself. -
