Are you living where you always wanted to live?We recently moved from Wilts to Cornwall. We have family already in Cornwall,so it was an easy decision.Having never lived near the ocean,I am now 10 mins walk away and absolutely love it.I finished work yesterday and headed straight for the beach.A great way to unwind and relax.I'm not originally from the UK,and would of hoped to move back to my country of origin, but sadly my husband (Who is a Brit)refused to move.ViewDate:

What are your views on TV Charity Begging Adverts?I'm Australian, trust me we have the same amount of adverts, door knocking that you do.I think acceptance is important.I help a charity of my choice and thats all I'm doing.I can't be there for everyone.Unfortunately though millions of people in the world do suffer, thats life I'm afraid.ViewDate:

RespectRe write your will if you have one! I can understand why you'd feel hurt re your grandson's comment.I think I would of asked him for the money back tbh! Said something like "Ah ok...if I'm not family,or close to you,I'd have the gift/money back thanks"! Sad that your grand daughter did'nt offer to help you either, but thats the times we live in unfortunately.Do you think she met you under duress?Could your daughter not have met you?ViewDate:

LonelyHi Veel,is it possible to join any clubs in your area?I know it may be restrictive atm due to Covid, but many are up and running to a degree.Even if you use your local swimming pool, fitness type group, walking group, anything that interests you.You have a life too, please don't be lonely.ViewDate:

Are you worried about Coronavirus?Yes I'm worried.Just had 3 weeks off work with Covid-19,and am thankful I'm still alive to tell the tale.I only said to my husband this morning,we won't be going anywhere for a holiday this year.We both work full time,so our breaks away are very important to us.Staying home is'nt the same. You still have chores to do,some cooking, tidying up,its not like a complete break to us.Wondering now when our lives will all return to some form of normality.I think its going to take months myself.I don't understand why the govt has'nt insisted on a total lockdown, because until that happens, people are still going out and about, for some their lives have really not changed, whereas other's like ourselves are virtual prisoners in our own homes.Seems so unfair to us.On the plus side,I am on AL next week, and as we can't go anywhere,I am going to decorate the house. We already had the paint brought last Autumn, just havent got around to doing it yet.So I suppose by the time Corona ends, our house will look lovely and we can then concentrate our time on better things....like actual holidays lol.ViewDate:

"really" making new friends!I moved to the UK to be with my british husband back in 98.We had moved around quite alot in that time due to husbands work,but....never did make any special friends.I'm like you, joined various groups hoping to connect with others beyond the group, but its never happened. Not sure why that is.I think to an extent its the stiff british upper lip thing going on,as in my home country, had plenty of close friends.God help you if you invite someone into your home for a cuppa.I've been given weird looks, excuses, you name it.I've now given up tbh.Its too much hard work.I am returning to live in my home country soon, where I will obviously re connect with my close friends.I've never felt so lonely in my life, and feel its had quite a negative impact on my life.Seems to me the british way is to go to work, come home, shut the front door and the world away and your life revolves being stuck inside your home, alone. No thanks.I'm done with it.ViewDate:

Problems with PeopleSounds like you've been through an awful lot.Family?I've more or less given up on mine, quite toxic and not good for my soul either.Having recently lost your husband, please be careful as you may be feeling quite vulnerable. The guy at work,I think if it were me,I'd just have a working r/ship with him.As he's already reported you,he can't be trusted tbh.I don't know the full story but if he was interested in you, you only reciprocated that interest, and you then get reported?Ridiculous. As for the other lady who claimed you sabotaged her project, stay clear.I've learnt in my years of working, trust no one.Its unfortunate but true.People do stab you in the back, and are then nice to your face.I go to work,do my job, interact with colleaques at a basic work level and thats it.I'm not there to make friends, not with those kind of people anyone.Maybe these two people feel threatened by you? Last year I was awarded an "Employee of the month"award.I had only been in my job for 4 mths. However,a colleaque who had been there for 20yrs and never won, instead of congratulating me,piped up "They should scrap those awards,I've never won anything in 20 yrs"! Wow talk about bitter and twisted. And with that attitude should she be suprised she's never won?lol Just do your best at work, keep your head down and don't take any crap from anyone.Speak up for yourself when needed, and stand your ground. You'll be fine.ViewDate:

AllotmentsHi Shaun56, I've used no dig for 30 yrs now.I've got an allotment which I've had for 7 yrs now.The site was brand new,so to explain no dig I'll explain how I managed my lottie. Each plot was sectioned off by wood.So I drew up a plan of how where I wanted my beds to go.I brought some wooden bed kits, made up the beds, and put them in place. The paths were covered in weedmat, and I sourced free wood chips from a local landscaper which were then laid on top the mat.So all I had then was beds and paths! I planted straight into the beds as they were.I had already in place 3 compost bins which I used during the growing season to stock up!After the season finished (Autumn,I don't grow over winter)I left the beds to rest.In January each year I then top dress these beds with my compost.I don't dig it in,just literally shovel it over each bed and lightly rake it over. The worms take it below the soil for me.Usually around May time when my beds are full with stock,I'll source some straw, and use this as mulch,to conserve moisture, and it obviously rots into the soil, making the soil more friable.I've found too it also stops snail/slug damage as they don't like crossing it.I'll only disrupt my soil to remove crops/harvest,thats it.ViewDate:

Hello from a newbie and like minded memberHi Blondie, and welcome! I'm also a gardener, but I enjoy the "boring"jobs, mainly growing my own food.I've got a garden just to relax and chill out in but also have an allotment which I love.I'm an aussie living in the UK atm,and can't wait for summer! xViewDate:

Worried about husband!Sorry to hear of your loss, very sad when it was the love of your life.I think(?)I can live with the loss of libido, but its the sense of loneliness I feel thats hard to cope with. The other day,we were both off work.We visited our allotment which was quite nice, came home and husband sat outside watching the cricket for hours via his ipad or whatever it is.I started off sitting with him for an hour, but sensed he just wanted to be alone,so I came back inside.Am I expecting too much?I'm only 58,and feel I have alot of life left inside me.ViewDate:

Ladies and the menopauseI'm post menopause.I did research before menopause, and discovered Japanese women in particular hardly suffer any symptoms. This is due to their high level of soya products they use, soya milk, yoghurt, tofu etc.So before my menopause began,I started using soya milk. Now whether this worked or not I don't know, but I experienced NO menopausal symptoms at all.I havent had any periods for 5 yrs now,and it was plain sailing.Anxiety?I've meditated and practiced yoga for pretty much all my adult life,so whether this helped,it probably did.ViewDate:

Water benefitsAs an aussie,we have it ingrained into us to drink drink drink....water that is! Always drank alot of water, even in the cooler months.Hydration keeps everything in order.Dehydration is what causes the problems.Even more so when we get older.People do not drink enough through fear of having to keep going to the toilet, and there starts a vicious circle.Women especially can and are prone to UTI infections due to their urine becoming too strong and crystalised. Not drinking enough will cause you a myriad of health related issues,so its really best to aim for 1 litre per day.I don't have anything in my water, just plain and you do get used to it.It also keeps your teeth in good condition because it washes any sugar/acid foods off your teeth before they can do damage.ViewDate:

Adult GrandchildrenIts your grandchildren who are mean,by not thanking you.Last year I stopped sending my son and his girlfriend presents.I had been sending them Xmas,Birthday and Easter presents and never got a thankyou.I had also not received anything, not even a card.I know you don't give to receive but my thoughts are,why should you invest time and money into someone, when they're not with you.Its very unbalanced. I am working full time.Buying someone presents is time consuming, can be expensive, and due to my son living in another country, the postage was horrendous.I would message my son to ask him to let me know when the parcel arrived. He did'nt.I had to chase him up to check. Then when it came to the occasion,he would never thank me.I thought I had brought him up much better than that, and that in itself is disappointing. It was'nt costing him anything to message me on Facebook or whatever. My advice is to save your money. If people can't be bothered to at the very least thankyou, then they are not worthy of a gift.ViewDate:

Money Saving TipsGrow your own fruit and veg!Packets of seeds are so cheap and can usually last longer than a year.Stock pile marked down toiletries and pantry items, freezer goods.Use Freecycle, and your local Facebook for sale/free group to buy items. For gift giving, buy out of season as alot of stores have blue cross sales.(I Xmas shop in Aug each year).Same with Xmas cards/tags/wrap,buy straight after Xmas to save alot of money. In summer we use a bucket in the shower to collect excess water when we shower each day.We then use this water for our garden/allotment.If I cook a roast dinner for example I make 4 dinners instead of 2.I then freeze the extra two to reheat in the microwave.I use this for alot of dinners,as it saves time and money, especially when you are working. Walk or ride a bike into town if possible. Its better for your health and free.ViewDate:

AllotmentsThats nice Northern!Today I emptied two of my compost bins and did some much spreading! lol When the farmers do theirs, thats my cue to do my own!I literally just throw large handfuls over my beds, which were topped with straw last summer.I took down a small greenhouse (Plastic type not glass)near the shed,as the plastic had perished (It was pretty old so lasted a long time). My husband can use the shelving in that,in the main greenhouse.Tidied up a couple of flower beds,so a productive day so far,and its pretty mild outside too today.ViewDate:

X-FactorUsed to enjoy the X Factor but have decided not to watch the last two series. Why?Well they seem to focus way too much time on the judges, back stage, history of the acts, what they're families think and so on.Then you only get to listen to probably 1 min of actual singing.Very predictable comments from Simon. Also from acts, all say the same thing....its the only thing I ever wanted to do.....blah blah blah....boring! I don't miss watching it one bit.The Voice is becoming the same.ViewDate:

AllotmentsI've had my allotment for 5 yrs now.Always grown my own food (30 yrs)and in my own garden, but we moved house 5 yrs ago to a smaller garden.I love my lottie! I use the no dig method so its very easy to maintain.Yesterday I did a little pruning of some perennials,a tiny bit of weeding, and just a general tidy up.Today I will check my seed packets to see what I need.So whats everyone else doing right now?Have you planted anything?ViewDate:

Is a 'stiff-upper-lip' mentality partially to blame for today's mental health problems?I don't think its the stiff upper lip.I think its more to do with social media.Years ago people spoke to eachother in person, offloading issues, having a shoulder to cry on.These days people talk to eachother on their phones via Whatsapp etc,or Facebook and so on.ViewDate:

I have been forgotten, I no longer existThanks Northern! Not sure what the issue is tbh.Ok this is a good example of what happened to me recently. The friend with the pub?A while ago she was feeling low due to some things happening in her life.I brought her a large bunch of flowers, gave her a hug and said I was there for her if she needed a shoulder.Bumped into her in town last week. She did'nt ask how I was,or what I'd been doing. All she spoke about was herself. At the end of the conversation,I mentioned we were going away the following day,to celebrate my upcoming birthday (last Friday)and would be returning on Sunday. She never wished me a happy birthday, and on my birthday I got no messages from her.I'm putting her in the too hard basket.Friendships should be equal not all about the one person.ViewDate:

I have been forgotten, I no longer existI realise your post is quite old now celtwitch, but I feel the same as you.I moved to the UK from another country 20 yrs ago and have since struggled to make any real friends.I too was once sociable with many friends. Two years ago we(I'm married)met another couple, who were living on a canal boat,so always on the move. However they've since taken over a pub in our town to apparently be closer to us.Two years on,the lady of the couple still does'nt know how many children I have, and has never even asked where we live in town!!! I always ask about her life, her kids, etc but its never reciprocated.I've now decided not to bother having ANY friends. Its too much hard work in my opinion.Yes I do feel lonely too as our kids don't live nearby, but I'd rather feel lonely than be friends with people who are only interested in themselves.ViewDate:

Is lack of relaxation damaging our health?I practice meditation and yoga daily, and strive for as much peace as possible, its not always achieveable though.Last summer,I was on a day off work, and planned to do some peaceful things in my garden. However that soon changed when my neighbour, decided to do some work in his own (Building a wall)and had his radio blaring outside from 8.30am-6pm.I had little choice but to go out that day to gain peace. I think people are scared of peace. Why?Because they don't like to face their thoughts.Anything.....from phone addiction, too much time spent on laptops, blasting their ears with music, watching tv.....people are afraid to sit still and do nothing. You can control your inside noise within your own home, but unfortunately have little to no control what noise goes on outside your home.ViewDate:

Financial arrangement within marriage - what's your preference?I think its fantastic when you both agree what works and stick by it.Money should'nt cause arguements, but if one party does'nt stick to the deal,or overspends or whatever, then of course,it can cause alot of unnecessary tension.ViewDate:

What would you do?Life is'nt all about him is it?You're in this together,or supposed to be,Apart from separating, you can find happiness doing stuff on your own.It makes a healthy r/ship.Obviously though you should also spend quality time together. My husband is approaching 60 soon.I can tell he's "winding down".Always used to be up for a long walk. These days I have to gently persuade him, which I never used to have to do.I'm a couple of years younger, but my head's still in my 30's!So I'm not ready to wind down.I do believe though its selfish to become a grumpy old person, alone yes! When you're in a r/ship...No.
