MOVING HOME ALONE ......AND TO A NEW PART OF THE COUNTRYYes, I agree with Angela. I think it's very wise to perhaps rent for while in the area you think you'd like to move to. Or at least do multiple weekend trips with AirBnB or SisterStay or the like. Find out how friendly it is and get a feel for prices. Maybe see what local groups there are. Check out on MeetUp whether there are active groups around your main interests.ViewDate:

MOVING HOME ALONE ......AND TO A NEW PART OF THE COUNTRYI think both Chichester and Bournemouth are good options. Take a look at Lewes too. It's got a lot going on and is supposed to be a lovely place to live.ViewDate:

Scared and LonelyI totally understand how you feel, BTP It seems like such a natural and wonderful thing to do to build your life around your family, but sadly, as they grow up and start to lead their own lives, you inevitably feel left behind. This happened to me too. The best thing you can do is to find new interests for yourself. Choose the interest first and then the social side will follow. Of course that's not easy with COVID in the background, but now that the vaccines are being rolled out we can start to look ahead to better days. Do you like walking? Cooking? Reading? Dancing? Crafts? Are you religious? Would you like to learn something new? Do you know MeetUp? It's a bit of a big and unweildy website but you can find groups local to you for just about everything!! Or just type in your interest and your location online and see what comes up! Once you start to find a life of your own, your kids will likely find it easier to spend time with you too. More to talk about. Less guilt. Show them what you're made of. More importantly, show yourself!! Sending courage and positivity your way. xxViewDate:

Long Stay HolidaysSo, I guess COVID killed your Cyprus plans for this winter as it did for our travel plans everywhere! We have friends with a fabulous apartment in Cyprus (with pool). They are planning on moving there permanently in a couple of years but I am pretty sure they would be open to a long term rental over the winter next year. I'm afraid I can't remember off the top of my head exactly where it is or who they rent through but I would be happy to find out if you wanted me to. It would be a win for both of you.ViewDate:

MOVING HOME ALONE ......AND TO A NEW PART OF THE COUNTRYI feel for you, hondygirl. It's a long distance between Australia and Yorkshire. For me, even though I'm Australian, I prefer England. It's so green and beautiful and has real seasons! I particularly love Easingwold in North Yorkshire. It's a little market town north of York with a lot of new housing going up so maybe there's something affordable there. They are super friendly up north. Having said that, Australians are a pretty friendly bunch too. Whereever you end up, do join clubs of interest to you. Have you seen the meetup website? It's worldwide and might help you find something local to you. Good friends are so important in life, especially as we grow older. We can't really rely on our children for our happiness as I know all too well. Maybe consider getting a dog too! You'll have to get out every day for a walk which is healthy and dog walkers always seem to strike up conversations with one another. Not so easy to travel with a dog I suppose but they are quite good company. Honestly, 68 is not that old ... for anything!! Embrace life and you will start to get your confidence back . Good luck. -
