Who is your preference for the next Prime Minister?Whoops - bit of a typo in my comment - meant to put "US style of health care." Interrupted & distracted by phone call.ViewDate:

Who is your preference for the next Prime Minister?Oh dear... what a difficult decision... I ended up not voting for either, but if absolutely forced to, Mr Hunt would get my vote. Both gentlemen have proved total disasters, though Jeremy seems less of a loose cannon than Boris. Jeremy Hunt has done untold damage to the NHS, though my feeling is that many members of the government are looking forward to the day the country adopts a US style of heal. As for Boris Johnson, I look at his record as Mayor of London, Foreign Secretary, comments from a former employer & a letter sent to his father by a teacher at Eton. What the country needs is a general election to rid ourselves of this Tory Government. I now await the abuse my comments & opinion will doubtless unleash...ViewDate:

Would you buy your supermarket produce loose, out of packaging?I would love to see this in my local supermarket. There's so much unnecessary packaging produced by the food industry which is next to impossible to recycle. Roll on the day this is universally the norm.ViewDate:

Who will you be voting for in the European Elections?I am horrified that so many of my peer group are voting for Nigel Farage's party. Read up about the man - he is a charlaton of the highest order, offering snake oil rather than a genuine solution. Q: What are his policies? A: None. Q: What does the party's manifesto contain? A: There isn't one. Are we, the older generation so racist & xenophobic that we will risk throwing away easy access to the world's largest & most successful trading block & the peace that has existed throughout Europe since the formation of the Common Market/European Union? Freedom of movement, to travel & seek employment throughout the union & employ the best people? And for what? Linking more closely with the USA & what is currently a nightmare scenario with Trump at the helm? The younger generation will hold us (though not me - I'm voting for sanity) responsible for what is surely to pass. I'm usually an optimistic individual, but I tremble in fear. Just hope, that if the hard right win through, that my worst fears are unjustified.ViewDate:

Should more people plan for their death?Agree wholeheartedly with this. I have a pre-paid funeral policy & have also made a will. This isn't as difficult or as expensive as some people seem to think - Age UK have a free will writing service, though they do encourage a donation for as little or as much as you wish. My children also know that I want flowers know, while I'm alive to enjoy them rather than at my funeral & I do not want anything lavish! We've already decided who gets what when I finally shake off this mortal coil & there is regularly updated folder containing details of various policies, service providers, bank accounts & internet passwords, so hopefully this will be less stressful than if no plans had been made.ViewDate:

Is it time to get rid of 1p and 2p coins? It would be yet another excuse to increase prices. It already hits people in the pocket when the necessities of life go up by a few coppers, but higher price hikes would be inevitable. If 1p & 2ps were withdrawn, how long before 5ps followed? I do agree that cash transactions will eventually end, with the increasing use of on-line & plastic transactions, but this will take some time as many people still prefer carrying & using cash.ViewDate:

Should a statue of Margaret Thatcher be erected in her home town?I don't part of your comment... exactly what do you mean by "out of brexit?" Does this mean the whole ridiculous situation wouldn't have occured ie no referendum or would she have cancelled brexit, or would she have speeded up the process of withdrawal from the EU?ViewDate:

Should a statue of Margaret Thatcher be erected in her home town?Same here... I also agree, but a glitch in the system will not allow me to. I'm a Merseysider, born in Liverpool & although no longer living in my home town, still resident in the county. How that woman decimated the North West and how she sowed the seeds for this current harsh & uncaring regime... a statue should certainly not be erected in her honour.ViewDate:

Brexit - what happens next?Actually, Surfer Pete, the Danes held a referendum in 1982 re their membership of the EU. Because the difference between leave & remain was so little, the result was ignored and they continue as members. My understanding of democracy is the opportunity to change one's opinion, and my understanding is that many, many people have changed their minds regarding their original vote.ViewDate:

Brexit - what happens next?Well folks, this morning I was delighted to learn that the European Court of Justice has ruled that Article 50 can be revoked without the permission of the other member states of the EU. Also that Mrs M has cancelled tomorrow's vote. This is music (a symphony even) to my ears! What comes next is anyone's guess, but PLEASE not Moggy, Bojo or any of their special pals moving into number 10. I am now watching several spaces with great interest.ViewDate:

Brexit - what happens next?I voted for a second referendum, though my preferred option is to remain in the EU. Back in the original referendum, I voted in favour of joining the Common Market, as it was then called & also voted to remain in this last referendum. I also feel that a general election is well over due - this vile government needs to go.ViewDate:

Had you planned to retire earlier than you are now able to?Earlier in my life, my plan was to retire at 60, but a change of circumstances led to me reconsider this & to continue working. However, serious illness led to the cancellation of my contract on the grounds of ill health. This occurred 6 months before I qualified for State Retirement Pension, so I decided to go for it. However, I now realise that I should have challenged this as I would have received more in compensation, as the original plan was to work for as long as possible. At the time, following the stress of a gruelling treatment regime & disgraceful treatment from my then employer, enough was enough & I walked! Financially, it's a struggle, but I have peace of mind - my former work place is now a (metaphorical) with gross mistreatment of the staff, so in retrospect, glad to have my freedom!ViewDate:

Should The Great British Bake Off remain with the BBC?Must say I don't watch much tv as find it a passive experience & prefer to "do" rather than sit & observe, so am selective in what I do watch. I love footie & always watch Match of the Day & in my opinion the BBC's sport presentation is infinitely superior to that of the commercial channels. Bake Off is one of the programmes I make a point of watching, together with Strictly, Poldark, Dr Who, Countryfile & nature/environmental type shows. Please don't let any of these go the way of other former BBC programmes. Could be worse though - at least I live in the UK & not the USA!ViewDate:

Should The Great British Bake Off remain with the BBC?That's funny - when I watch programmes on catch up, there are still some adverts. It's also a pain having to fast forward recorded programmes past the ads. Like others have commented, it it ain't broke, don't fix it!ViewDate:

Should The Great British Bake Off remain with the BBC?As with many other institutions in this country, the Government is starving the beeb of investment & sadly, the company that makes the show have greedily taken it out reach. When it moves channels, I'll give it a go, but feel without Mel & Sue it just won't be the same, plus it'll have those irritating commercial breaks. Personally, I ignore the content of all the ads, but they still disrupt the continuity of a programme. Please, Mrs May & cronies, give the beeb the money it needs to continue broadcasting top class programmes.ViewDate:

Do you support the Junior Doctor's latest planned 5 day strike? My intention is to point out out that whether officially on duty, striking or whatever, these wonderful doctors always step up to the mark & their commitment to their calling should be supported, not undermined, which this awful government is doing.ViewDate:

Are the school holidays too long?I think the school holidays should remain the same number of weeks in total, but be split into four of equal length, rather than the current two shorter breaks, overly long summer break & half term breaks It's not so much the children who need the break, but the poor old teachers! I don't speak as a teacher either, as it's not a profession I could ever undertake, no matter how great the reward! Like the junior doctors, teachers are a much undervalued, hard working profession, so yes, they do deserve their holidays & with pay. Friends of mine who worked as teachers, put in so much extra work, such as lesson preparation, marking, out of hours activities, plus the constant changes to the curriculum for which they were not paid. People critical of the profession are probably unaware of the constant pressure teachers are under.ViewDate:

Do you approve of dummies?Interesting to see that the vote is more or less 50/50. Personally, I'm against dummies. Not only do they look awful - think of a (probably) beautiful baby photographed with his/her face obscured by a dummy almost the size of its head - I think it smacks of couldn't be bothered to find out what the child wants or needs. None of my children ever had a dummy & they've all grown into well balanced adults. Receiving cuddles when out of sorts, instead of having a dummy stuck in their mouth, has (to my mind at least) stood them all in very good stead.ViewDate:

Do you support the Junior Doctor's latest planned 5 day strike?Patients in need are still receiving necessary treatment - there have even been reports of doctors on the picket line treating an emergency situation when, for example, somebody has collapsed in their presence. And consultants are covering the duties of striking junior doctors. At a recent football match I attended, a member of the crowd collapsed and was treated by an OFF DUTY doctor until the paramedics were able to take him to hospital. Personally, I speak as a patient - I'm due an appointment with my oncologist for what, is hopefully, my final check following breast cancer treatment. I know my appointment will doubtless be cancelled since it's non-urgent, but I do know that if I were still undergoing treatment, I would still be seen on the appointed day. These doctors have my full support - my feeling is that the people who are against them probably haven't observed how hard they actually work while on duty, or realise that they often supply unpaid cover too.
